Bush would accept slight delay in ports deal-Rove Thu Feb 23, 2006 4:19 PM ET

WASHINGTON, Feb 23 (Reuters) - President George W. Bush would accept a slight delay in permitting Dubai Ports World to acquire a British company that operates six key U.S. ports, senior White House adviser Karl Rove told Fox News.

When asked if Bush would accept a slight delay in implementing the takeover of P&O , Rove said: "Yes, look, there are some hurdles, regulatory hurdles, that this still needs to go through on the British side as well that are going to be concluded next week.

I'll be there. (Of course, I said that last week and turned around after an hour stuck in Beltway traffic.) Keep your fingers crossed!

For Republicans, there is zero political gain by allowing this deal to go through.

President Bush must know the score by now. The Republican Congress will not commit suicide by allowing this deal.

Reviewing all this port stuff the only mistake I thought W made was the veto threat but I guess he had his reasons. If anything it fired a shot across the bow of Sen Frist's presidential posing.

Anyway, my real point is:

Love is hard to find in the church of the poisen mind.

I think the veto threat was spoken more in anger (not that Dubya ever shows much anger) at the outcry of Pubbies.

I thought the veto threat was a much needed slap in the face to his Repub. critics. It shifted the whole balance of discussion.

Maybe an over-reaction to the how-come-no-vetoes crowd? Dunno. Zook's right though, it did shift the discussion.

No comment on the CC reference? Dang I worked hard on that.

CC MEANS:

Carbon Copy. Olden days, carbon paper was physically placed between the papers - to make a CC, up to 3 or 4 copies - they got worse, the more one made.

Carbon copy of the original - that's when white-out came to be. A white-out changed the original. Carbon copies didn't change. Copiers did not exist then.

Gads.

Maybe some folks are too young...or just don't know, however--

It's all built off keyboards/typewriting.

Some folks just don't know.

PC means private copy

ETC!

I don't like it either, but I think Bush is looking at a millitary strategy in exchange for UAE's economic pursuit. Also, what happeneds if he alienates himself from the UAE, we dock military ships there and are keeping them close in the WOT.

I don't like it because I don't really think UAE is loyal to anything but their wallet. I don't think they have a negative agenda towards us, their just looking out for #1..and we're not it.

And that Iran does not price its oil in Euros and all of OPEC follows suit..

And that Iran does not attack Israel...

After that all bets are off and we better be prepared for China and Russia...when we go after Iran...

Especially with all the enemies we have lurking withing our own borders and disguised as Americans.

imo

Mornin' chief!

I happen to love that one...it's in all the press stories and core to most of the arguments...and so patently false.

Then what do they do? You've been challenged with answering that and haven't ante'd up here.

They get up on Monday morning, report to where? Do what? Have influence over what? Hire whom? Or not? What do they control/not control?

I hear a lot of people, you included, apparently dismissing notions that DPW in such a position can't possibly do anything that would be harmful to national security, yet, you can't even tell us what it is, again, specifically that they do!

Does anyone expect those that "have a hand raised" here to buy such feeble defenses of the matter?

It may very well be a great idea. But thus far no one, from W on down, has "eased the worries" of anyone questioning this. And quite frankly, given W's track record on securing the border, call me nuts, but if you ask me, I'd say the credibility here is on the side of those that are challenging this decision.

That would appear to be one of the "questions du jour."
