Hollywood celebrities pitch in to defeat Rep. DeLay

Hollywood celebrities and prominent corporate executives have poured thousands of dollars into the campaign of former Rep. Nick Lampson (D-Texas) to knock off Rep. Tom DeLay (R-Texas).

Screenwriter and producer Norman Lear, director Rob Reiner, actress and singer Barbara Streisand and musician Don Henley have written checks to Lampson, according to politicalmoneyline.com, a website that tracks campaign contributions.

Reiner and Streisand kicked in $1,000, and Lear and Henley sent Lampson $4,200.

While Democrats have courted Hollywood stars in recent years, the moguls’ money has usually flowed to presidential candidates, the national party or the congressional fundraising committees.

As a rule, run-of-the-mill congressional candidates do not attract Hollywood cash. But Lampson and Iraq war veteran Paul Hackett are two challengers who have attracted national attention and reaped the rewards.

Republicans have fans in Hollywood, too, including Kelsey Grammer, Drew Carey, Bruce Willis, Tom Selleck, Bo Derek, Johnny Mathis, Dennis Miller and Shannen Doherty. But besides appearing at GOP conventions, they have made no contributions for this cycle, a search of records found.

Man, the Dems really love to pile on. Delay's neutered but they're still not happy until he is isolated, demonized and destroyed.

Strange, none of those goddamn crackpots are even registered to vote here in Delay's district. No amount of money those commies spend is going to make a democrat candidate look good if their policy sucks ass.

If I were managing his campaign (and I've magnaged congressional campaign) I'd use these donations as a badge of honor. Can't imagine the good, stalwart people of Texas enjoy seeing candidates getting money from the likes of Barbara Streisand, Norma Lear, and Meathead.

How do the Hollywood creeps feel about the port deal? If they're against it, I'll have to change sides and be for it. The good news? It's been over a year since I've seen a movie in a theater.

I dunno, but it seems to me the more Soros and the Hollywood types are seen as being behind DeLay's problems, the better his chances of getting re-elected.

Regardless of political party, I don't think you should be able to contribute to a political candidate if you can't vote for them.

there's a reason he is the 'former rep from Texas', the guy was a bumbling fool, and I was glad to see him go.

Yet another reason finanace reform is a sham. Should be a felony to donate to anyone outside you electorate district and accept funds from someone outside your district.

This fact needs to be on everyone of DeLay's campaign pieces....The one thing we Texans don't like is outsiders messing with our business!

I forwarded the article to DeLay headquarters with the suggestion that they use it in their ads.

Let that be a lesson to the "appeasers": never sacrifice your allies to placate your enemies.

"Republicans have fans in Hollywood, too, including Kelsey Grammer, Drew Carey, Bruce Willis, Tom Selleck, Bo Derek, Johnny Mathis, Dennis Miller and Shannen Doherty..."

Or there is my personal favorite Conservative actress...Patricia Heaton.

The "heart and soul" of America apparently has nothing better to do than get the former majority leader. Its not enough Ronnie Earle forced him out of the GOP leadership. He's dangerous for Texas and for America.

I assume you are referring to DeLay. OK, now tell me how. Lets not just be a typical RAT with no backbone and nothing to support your claim. Or did you mean the RAT Earl???

"Hollywood celebrities and prominent corporate executives have poured thousands of dollars into..."

LOL...this is great....I love to see these uneducated idiots waste their money. I hope they do as well for Nick Lampson (D-Texas), as they did for that U.N. frog loving Kerry.
