President Bush called reporters at about 2.30 ET aboard Air Force One to issue a very strong defense of port deal... MORE... He said he would veto any legislation to hold up deal and warned the United States was sending 'mixed signals' by going after a company from the Middle East when nothing was said when a British company was in charge... Lawmakers, he said, must 'step up and explain why a Middle Eastern company is held to a different standard.' Bush was very forceful when he delivered the statement... 'I don't view it as a political fight,' Bush said.... DEVELOPING...

explain why a Middle Eastern company is held to a different standard.
Hmmm, number one, it's a GOVERNMENT not a private company, and number two, DUH, why would it need any explanation?

I think Bush has realized a solemn truth: terrorists won't attack an America that ceased to be American.

This is so simple to resolve...
Dear UAE,
If you allow shi# to blow up in our country, we'll annihilate you.

That only works if it's believed. At this point, even I don't believe it.

'I don't view it as a political fight,' Bush said.... He's got to be kidding! Mr President, I want you to explain to me how YOU can NOT hold a Middle eastern company, owned by an islamic government, to a different standard! I've been sick to death of Bush's stupid defenses of islam and the saudis and his unfair treatment of Israel ever since 9-11 but this takes the cake.

Israel is a middle-eastern country also. What we are discussing is an Islamic country. An important distinction that the administration is trying to obfuscate.

The President has a good point. The British managed our ports with no problems and all of sudden Washington has a problem with a company based in Dubai? Its fascinating to watch the Democrats rail against Arabs after acting for years like we were never at war. If their position is right, it stands to reason they're the last people on earth who should be against this UAE deal. Yet with the sole exception of Jimmy Carter, they all are and the only reason I can think of is because Bush is for it and we all know they're weak on national security.

Lawmakers, he said, must 'step up and explain why a Middle Eastern company is held to a different standard.'With a statement like this I believe Bush is backing all those liberals who have opposed his intelligence gathering into a corner. Either they are for security or they aren't. You can't have it both ways.

As I've said before, why hold any Middle Eastern country to a different standard than the British? Take Iran, for example. We're dead seat against Iran having nukes. Why then are we not threatening to attack England unless they disarm? Could it be that there is a different standard? Could it be that the differences are obvious?

explain why...
OK I will try. They blow men women and children up. They slaughter innocent Christians in Africa as fast as they can. They enslave anyone they conquer. They fly airplanes full of innocent people into buildings full of innocent people to kill them. They are trying to obtain nuclear weapons. They have sworn to destroy us. And so much more.
I don't know, call me crazy but I don't trust em with our ports. AND Jimmy Carter wants to do it. NUFF SAID

As much as I hate to say it, this is a real jackass move on the President's part. I fear someone (maybe in the Bush family) is getting a big payoff out of this--and as a result good judgement is going out the window. It floors me to hear the President equate a British company to a Middle-Eastern one in the context of trusting them with our national security. President Bush, of all people, KNOWS the answer to his own question.
History will not be kind to him if his gamble comes back to bite us--it will be the end of the Bush dynasty.

OK, allow the congress to investigate the companies records with a 45 day review allowance. If they find nothing then at the very least there was oversight.
