ABOARD AIR FORCE ONE (AP) President Bush says the deal allowing an Arab company to take over six major U.S. seaports should go forward and he will veto any bill that would stop it.
If middle east countries banned US companies, how would you feel?
Honored.
Then you better learn how to p*ss oil.
Frist is a democrat?
I pray I am being hyperbolic and shocked beyond reason...but I fear not.
We support, we vote and we bray.
We don't control the President.
There IS a difference between protecting, and being PROTECTIONIST....
This whole thing is a teapot tempest, in my opinion.
Saudis, Chinese, Taiwanese, Canadians, Kuwaitis, Malays, Germans, Brits, South Africans, Brazillians, Greeks and others have run port operations here for DECADES, as we run port ops overseas.....
AND, This nation is an ALLY, and arguably the most WESTERN of Middle-east Muslim countruies!! This is a knee-jerk reaction, and the more FACTS I learn, the more I can't see where the outrage is from, other than an attempt to hurt Bush......
Even a blind pig finds a truffle once in a while and that blind pig is long overdue!
We didn't influence the President's decision. We just forced him to make another, more reasonable one.
Conservative crackdown, my man.

Poor grammar aside ... this is the issue.
The President does not view the War on Terror as a war against the entire Islamic Middle East ... and he views that as an issue worth standing for.
I agree his judgments has been very good
My beef stems all the other government employees and other politicians who are selling out our country in hopes to bring Bush down
Plus I don't trust UAE
There are many factors that play into my reasons for not liking this port deal
Preach on, brother.
One consideration:

One final note on George W. Bushs management style and his Harvard Business School background does not derive from the classroom, per se. One feature of life there is that a subculture of poker players exists. Poker is a natural fit with the inclinations, talents, and skills of many future entrepreneurs. A close reading of the odds, combined with the ability to out-psych the opposition, leads to capital accumulation in many fields, aside from the poker table.
By reputation, the President was a very avid and skillful poker player when he was an MBA student. One of the secrets of a successful poker player is to encourage your opponent to bet a lot of chips on a losing hand. This is a pattern of behavior one sees repeatedly in George W. Bushs political career. He is not one to loudly proclaim his strengths at the beginning of a campaign. Instead, he bides his time, does not respond forcefully, at least at first, to critiques from his enemies, no matter how loud and annoying they get. If anything, this apparent passivity only goads them into making their case more emphatically.
Thank you for the chuckle.
Our enemies are already too close and we are our own best friend.
I have e-mailed my Congress rep and both senators, and will be working against this deal for the sake of national security.
You know what? My first instinct, when I heard those words by Bush, was that he was taunting opposition, trying to shame them by common "you're a loser" taunts (in this case, "you're a racist/nationalist" taunt)...using a rather sandbox-ian type bullying strategy to try to belittle the opposition into caving to his position.
I honestly think those words of his give him away as being under the influence of some other issue/cause/reason that he is not "comfortable" talking about, and that means he's withholding something of great/er importance while otherwise using a taunt method.
"Anti Arab sentiment" is nonsense as taunt because it belittles the very serious issues pertinent and relevant to "ARABS" that we Americans all too well remember: terrorism. It's not a small or little or wantonly prejudicial thing here, that's evident and it's really disappointing to hear Bush try to demean the concerns about, yes, Arabs and "Arabia" because we have very good reasons to question their sincerity and loyalty. Bush, of all people, should know that.
For the President to nominate a senior executive of DP World ,Dave Sanborn,to serve as Maritime Administrator, and then come out so strongly in support of DP World to manage these ports, especially after his continual harping on National Security(rightly so)just boggles my mind.
This is assinine.
I tend to agree.
I'd rather you Xenophobes explain away your silliness with no 'facts' except "They's BROWN PEOPLE!"
On what grounds? And by who?
This isn't about bigotry or security or foreign affairs anymore, Howlin. It is about the fact that two prime members of CIFUS are Snow and Sanborn, both of whom stand to profit from this deal given their prior employment by CSX and the previous sale to P&O.
This is about corruption and it is about arrogance of power and if the President doesn't fire these crooks and his staff then he needs to go.
The public will demand it. He cannot stomp his feet any more. He lacks support. He is either in a terrible bout of denial and/or in a dry drunk or he is actually drunk with more than power.
I pray for him but he must act or he will be finished.
Hah. Don't we wish.
