Senate Republican Leader Bill Frist called Tuesday for the Bush administration to stop a deal permitting a United Arab Emirates company to take over six major U.S. seaports, upping the ante on a fight that several congressmen, governors and mayors are waging with the White House.
"The decision to finalize this deal should be put on hold until the administration conducts a more extensive review of this matter," said Frist. "If the administration cannot delay this process, I plan on introducing legislation to ensure that the deal is placed on hold until this decision gets a more thorough review."
In the uneasy climate after the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, the Bush administration decision to allow the transaction is threatening to develop a major political headache for the White House.
"I'm not against foreign ownership," said Frist, "but my main concern is national security." He was speaking to reporters in Long Beach, Calif., where Frist was doing a fact-finding tour on port security and immigration issues.

One glance at the southern border and the answer is self-evident.
I wonder if they'll start slinging the word "xenophobe" around as they did "sexist".
Ugggg, more politics.
Europe got into trouble this way.
Boy I'm glad this post finally got Breaking News on FreeRepublic.
Because one day I'm simply living my life and the next day some Arab country is taking over my country's ports. And as wise as I am, I know nothing about it.
What has to happen here is for the administration to step up to the podium and explain what this is all about.
As an aside, this is the first time I think I've heard Chuck Schumer utter something close to the truth. For I truly believe his constituents don't like the idea. Same with Maryland's Ehrlich. This whole idea just strikes Americans as not right.
Add to the mix the cartoon riots we've seen across the planet and, duh, Americans don't want these people in this country. They're uncivilized for God's sakes.
The mullah poobahs inciting these riots that they may keep control of their oil wealth need to realize there's a price to pay for this poor public relations. Like, duh, civilized people don't like what they see.
And if you'd argue that the UAE is more civilized than say, Iran, well maybe the money laundering capital of the Arab world needs too to get out and about and condemning this radical Islamfacist behavior.
Americans, and in this case I refer to the broad Middle Class, don't like this idea at all and the politicos are, in this case, rising to the call. I'm from Baltimore, worked in Baltimore and the notion makes me uneasy.
That's the problem, we're uneasy about this. And when the Middle Class gets uneasy, well hey, WE'RE the ones that get them elected. We're the ones that, despite incredible pressure from across the planet and gazillions of dollars poured into his opponent's campaign, STILL re-elected Bush.
Rush is pushing this thing but for now, I trust my gut. Let the President convince me otherwise.
I'll listen.

Ouch. Lot of truth to that though.
However, it pains me to say this, having contributed to the President's campaigns since 1999 that he simply must fire Snow, Sanborn and Chertoff and any others on the CIFUS who have any while collar links to any of the parties.
The President simply must take charge of his administration, clean out his WH staff of the bootlickers and brain dead advisors who have so badly managed this presidency ever since the day after his reelection in 2004.
If the President does not fire those on his staff and at least the three, Snow, Sanborn and Chertoff, then the President will be impeached and rightly so.
Mark my words. It is coming if the President remains so aloof from the facts.
I have a new tag line which once read, First liberal for Bush in 1999 and it sickens me to use the new one:
Fire Snow, Sanborn, Chertoff, et al or Impeach Bush
Bush won't dig in his heels. What if this port security thing was just a way to get Frist some favorable political traction for his bid for presidency? From the beginning, to me the whole thing sounded like a Rove "rope a dope" tactic.
.
Amen Brother!
Well, I dunno....now. I have a real bone to pick with him on the border security issue and whats happening along the Rio Grande to our south. We're the only country in the world for whom border security is a law enforcement issue rather than a military issue. As much as I love our President, I worry that his legacy will be a failure to stop incursions by foreign armies and terrorists....
What on earth possessed the President to think that such a move as he is now proposing would fly? My G-d, Jimmy Carter is in support of this so you know it's got to be bad for the country! Handing over control of the nations key seaports to an Arab country is akin to giving the keys to Fort Knox to the mafia....based on a promise not to steal....
Oh please .. you're sounding like the loony left
Israel is not an exception nor should any other country, Middle Eastern, Asian, European, South American or Martian.
U.S. ports are United States ports.
Frist, I'm afraid, is simply Hillary's be-actch who tends to fight hard for the causes that separate Candidate Frist from his President. This is just one more activity that firmly cements Frist in the camp of not being a friend.
The Republican party is going to get Hillary elected if they don't wise up on border security. Mexico is all but attacking us from the south. China already has the left coast and Panama and now the East Coast is up for grabs for the world of Islam. Border security IS a legitimate concern of a federal government. Would China or United Arab Emirates sell the United States Government their major ports? No, they are not that stupid.
The "companies" that are buying our ports are in fact, foreign governments.
"Does anyone other than a DemonRat or a MSM agent think Bush is THAT stupid or would jeopardize this country?"
Ya, I do. How about that southern border mess that this administration seems hell bent on ignoring.
Signed, NOT A BUSHBOT!
Easy. We do not give them insight into our security measures at OUR ports. After witnessing how corrupt CBP is on the Texas border; there is no doubt that our ports are any better. This incident (the transfer of ownership) is a good time to evaluate security in an open and transparent fashion. Few of us Freepers are hysterical. Most of the comments that I have read request congressional scrutiny. It makes sense to do that.
