MILWAUKEE -- President Bush and President Vicente Fox of Mexico exchanged ideas Monday on how to stop violence and improve security along the two countries' mutual border, the White House said.
Press secretary Scott McClellan said that Bush telephoned Fox while traveling here to give a speech and said the pair "talked about working together" to improve conditions that have been a source of friction between the two countries.
McClellan told reporters that Bush has designated Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff to talk to his counterpart in Mexico about the problem and said that Bush and Fox also talked about pending immigration legislation in Congress

IMHO, the bottom line is: Our Rebellion unto God has put us all in this position. If we'll NOT be ruled by God, we'll be ruled by tryanny.

What's to discuss.....we don't any border security and he frickin knows it.
Employer oversight will not work, we do not have the man power to apprehend all the illegals nor keep up with employers who do not comply. If we try to make the employer responsible it will be an undue burden on honest employers and the dishonest employers will continue to cheat. They will cheat not only by hiring illegals, but due to their lower labor cost, they will be unfair competition for those businesses that follow the law.
Wait, that's what's happening now....
This could, no it WOULD actually work, but the logistics are impossible for someone like me to figure out. Imagine, if everyone who was sick of the Mexican invasion would just donate like ten bucks a month to this fund, there would be billions a year to spend on truly effective security. We could have a privately funded army of bad guys who aren't afraid to use guns securing the border from the other side.
Good points and one other factor that needs to be investigated is to what degree is there massive welfare fraud in that community. Saw an old FR thread about a fake ID ring that had produced millions of fake ID's for Mexicans here in the states. Don't think they were used to get library cards.....I wonder just how easy is it to get benefits in multiple names? If it's easy as I think it is this whole scam is a beautiful deal for many businesses........get rid of Americans, evade taxes and pay workers minimal wages knowing it's pocket change compared to what they're soaking taxpayers for.
That is very close to the actual phone conversation.

MR. McCLELLAN: ... but first let me just kind of touch on the day, and also I've got two world leader calls that I want to read out to you.
The President called President Arroyo this morning.
[snip]
And then following that, the President spoke with President Fox of Mexico. This was an opportunity to talk about border issues. Primarily, they talked about the increased border violence, and the two leaders talked about the importance of working together to improve our border security and stop the violence. They also talked about designating a high-level contact within each government to work together on these issues. The President designates Secretary Chertoff, who he spoke with this morning, as well, to work with his counterpart in Mexico on these issues.
The President also gave President Fox an update on congressional efforts to pass comprehensive immigration reform. The President reiterated his commitment to comprehensive immigration reform, including a temporary guest worker program. And then they also talked about the security and prosperity partnership that was developed by Canada, Mexico and the United States, and talked about the possibility of meeting soon on that initiative. And that's really the readout for that call.

LOL
If there is enough manpower in law enforcement to stop speeders or people that run stop lights, the there certainly is enough manpower to monitor employers that break the law.
Yes, they want dual citizenship and voting priviledges, thereby entangling our system further with the failed mexican model.
I'm a Bush supporter, even a "staunch" one at times, but I have never made a secret on this board of my disapproval of this Administration's immigration policy. I just don't see the Democrat alternative (admit illegals, then give them every benefit of citizenship - and more) as being superior. If Bush would see the light on this issue, his approval rating would go up 10% overnight. Instead, he chooses to heed advisors who fear losing corporate campaign cash and "alienating" Hispanic votes. All he's doing now is alienating conservatives whose support he will need to maintain control of Congress. ("Mr Bush: Put Up that Wall!")
to appease the critics.
Like us?
Oh no! Not Chertoff again! Aaarrrggghhh! Which country is causing the border rumbling, and why does the Bush administration think Fox will do anything about it?
And just why does Bush pay more attention to Fox than he does the American people?
more like talked about how to get high-profile incidents to stop so the press and democrats would stop beating him with it.
Anyone on FR who thinks bush wants border security is either delusional or depends on the GOP website for ALL of their news.
This critic is not appeased.
I'm with you, Tammy! I feel like 'We the People', just don't matter any more.
