Bill Frist's Cheney Defense Leaves Bob Schieffer Fuming

Sen. Majority Leader Bill Frist told CBS "Face the Nation" host Bob Schieffer on Sunday that Democrats were playing "partisan politics" with Dick Cheney's hunting accident last weekend - a charge that left Mr. Schieffer fuming.

"What America does not want to see is what happened right afterwards, and that is that the Democratic leadership tried to inject partisan politics into what is a very, very tragic accident," First told Schieffer, who bristled at the remarks.

"But Senator," the veteran newsman protested, "ah - I mean - didn't - didn't - shouldn't [the hunting accident] have been made public but for no other reason than the administration and the vice president's own good? I mean, one can understand that he clearly was not thinking straight. Who would, after thinking they'd killed their best friend?"

Schieffer continued to insist that Democrat attacks on Cheney were legitimate, then asked: "Has the vice president become of liability to the White House? Has he become a liability to your party?"

Frist countered: "Absolutely not. Absolutely not. He is a bold leader. He understands and works very closely with the vision of the President of the United States in securing America's future for a safer, stronger country. That means he has to be both a leader as well as a participant and I think he does it very, very well."

Moments later, the Tennessee Republican reiterated: "I don't think it is appropriate to inject partisan politics into this particular incident."

There's a bumper sticker that says:
Would you rather go hunting with Dick Cheney or drive across a bridge with Ted Kennedy?

< Why doesn't Schieffer call Ted Kennedy in an ask him these same questions? >

Actually, I think we need to just drop the Kennedy reference from this accident, because it was an accident. Kennedy's wreck may have been an accident, but he left someone to die. Cheney did not. It does not begin to compare.

All of this silly, silly, coverage is backfiring. The MSM is continuing to commit suicide. They apparently have no idea how bad they look.

While this is not a scientific survey I'm running into lots of people, not all of whom are Republicans, who thing the MSM has come unglued.

LOL! Yes just like my lifelong democrat grandmother who can't believe the coverage.

I found out 2 days ago that my grandfather peppered the First Baptist Church's pastor in her small town, quail hunting many years ago. So something good came of this, I learned some family history that I did not know, LOL.

No, no, no. Bush is a raving imbicile and Cheney and Rove are his puppet masters. Cheney shot Whittington to send Bush a message to stay in line.

At least, that's what I heard over at DU.

There are a lot of adjectives and pronouns that I am often tempted to use regarding the left!

Great points which I have been trying to make all week; this puts it so much better than I have.

I am certain that this is why the Sheriff was not spoken to until the following morning and indeed the President until the Monday giving the VP time to get himself together and be able to talk about the incident in a coherent fashion.

He has not ducked or shirked asked for time off or anything but even ended the week in a public appearance in his home state.

I said before I thought the dems were imploding, but maybe it's actually the MSM. The democrats really haven't been the ones blowing this out of all proportion.

MSM or Democrats.....a distinction without a difference.

There can be no question that the MSM longs for the "bad old days" when they had some clout.

Obviously didn't listen to the interview Brit Hume did with the Veep or he would know they were acquaintances.

The MSM has to do its best to keep the story going. The "Bush Lied" chant is fading away and they have nothing new to report. Also, they need to have something as an excuse to ignore the "cartoon wars"...they can't insult their allies, the muslims.

"or he would know they were acquaintances"

Knowledge of the true facts has never stopped Schieffer from reporting whatever he feels will most damage the Bush administration.

That Schieffer quote is a perfect example of what the ancient MSM has been doing since Watergate. It's time to burn'em out of their crystal palaces... slash the tires on their limo's and make'm eat spam!

I always thought Schieffer was slightly to the left of Dan
Rather. Not much. There's very little room there.

I guess I can't spot the difference between the two.

The longer the tone-deaf fools of TOM ( the Tired Old Media ) beat this dead-horse issue, the happier I will be.

Out here in flyover country, it's no big deal.

They see it this way:

We see it like so:

Parade Magazine agrees

Q. I heard that CBS offered Katie Couric $17 million to $20 million to anchor the CBS Evening News. What’s wrong with the guy they’ve got: Bob Schieffer? —Lester Hoover, Los Angeles, Calif.

A. Nothing. In fact, Schieffer, 68—the most experienced Washington reporter in broadcasting—exudes an air of authority, credibility and likability unmatched since Walter Cronkite. Ratings are up 2% since CBS made him interim anchor after Dan Rather’s “retirement” last year. We think Bob is the best news anchor on the air today. p>,

They are one and the same. The Dems & antique media are both on their way to irrelevant.
