"I'm embarrassed to be associated with some of these simpletons and to watch them actually eating out of Chucky Schumers hands!"

There was opposition brewing well before that slimey little putz ever got wind of it. So, you're being rather disingenuous, trying to tar anyone who disagrees, due to an opportunist or two jumping on an issue that should never have been permitted to arise. It has the appearance of impropriety, involving foreign nationals gaining some measure, real or merely perceived, of control over ports, which have been pointed out again and again as a serious security risk.

Excellent point. It is not about politics or parties, it's about the national security of our country. The Dems were on top of this issue. This is the one thing they have done right. Instead of a personal attack on Bush which I have hated, they are dealing with him on his poor decision making on this deal. Conservative, religious Repubs went after him over Meiers and other repubs attacked them as disloyal but they held true because they knew that Bush owed them a better nominee. Bush is not always right.

In politics, the messenger counts. Getting the message from a media clown like Savage immediately diminishes the credibility of anything legit he says. I'd listen to some of my fellow freepers before listening to that ranter...

"Since when did FReepers start taking the spin of the dems and the MSM as the truth? All one has to do is take a few minutes to check this thing out to know it's a bunch of BS."

That's the problem. Some on our side are as intellectually lazy and bereft as those on the left. They rely on right wing talk radio and a few conservative columnists to get their information and it shows.

the operator of the port has more to say about the comings and goings thereand happens to be the SAME ONE AS BEFORE THIS DEAL WAS REACHED! The same people! Who doesn't understand this? The company that employees these operators was just purchased by the UAE. Beyond that, NOTHING CHANGES! Or do you think that the UAE is going to risk profits just so some fanatic can get their way? These people are bankers. They are democratic, industrious and not fanatical nuts like wahabi Muslims.

You are getting played.

ever been involved in a merger? sure, the same people work there the first day after it closes. but 2 years later, its another story, the acquiring company slowly filters their own people in from the top.

So are we not to trust Fox News now according to some here? According to the report I linked to above, it is indeed a security issue. Yet, some keep saying it has nothing to do with security and those of us who see a UAE GOVERNMENT company taking over security issues at our ports as stupid and uninformed. Go figure.

The ports are STILL going to be in US hands.

I can't think of any ports that are in private hands, now that you mention it.

Oh good god almighty, NO CONTROL OF PORTS WILL BE CHANGING HANDS! PORT CONTROL WILL STILL BE IN THE HANDS OF THE GOVERNMENTAL PORT AUTHORITIES!!! IT IS MERELY THE OPERATIONS AT THE PORT THAT ARE BEING SOLD. I swear to god I need a break from some of you people on Free Republic. You're as taxing as the leftists. The problem is, I expect more from my fellow conservatives, like getting basic facts straight.

They are all in the same boat, a perfect avenue to aid terrorism.

You say nothing changes? UAE will be in charge of security personnel. Hiring security personnel. That does not mean changes? So, I'm stupid and don't understand?

This is how FNC, the largest of the cable news channels and the most 'conservative', is prefacing the story:

WASHINGTON — A company in the United Arab Emirates is poised to take over significant operations at six American ports as part of a corporate sale, leaving a country with ties to the Sept. 11 hijackers with influence over a maritime industry considered vulnerable to terrorism.

Maybe you should tell us exactly why average americans shouldn't at the very least feel some apprehension regarding this news?

Or should we accept the brow-beating and mau-mauing by the more 'enlightened' among us & just shut up?

These blowhards don't get that governmental port authorities, either run by city or counties, are who "own" the ports and control them. And even after the sale of P&O, the port authorities will STILL control the ports, run the security and have the OPTION OF SWITCHING TO A DIFFERENT OPERATIONS COMPANY FROM THE UAE-based ONE BUYING P&O.

"Malkin is wrong. The UAE has actually been the most cooperative of the Arab nations in terms of Al Qaeda financing. She is just lumping them in with others like the Saudis, Syrians, etc."

Quote from MikeA's Post #155:

"The nuts on the far right are as intellectually lazy as the nuts on the far left! "

CHECKMATE, Folks!!!!!!

Talk about intellectually lazy!!!!!!!!!! The passage I quoted is one SHE quoted from a NEW YORK POST article: http://news.yahoo.com/s/nypost/20060214/cm_nypost/portinsecurity "And while the Bush folks now consider the UAE a major ally in the war against terror, the Treasury Department has been stonewalled by the emirates, and other Arab countries, in trying to track Osama bin Laden's bank accounts."

Air time is too precious. We should jealously guard every little bit of it that we control. Savage shouldn't interview Schumck Schumer for any reason, and Hannity should stop handing the microphone to that other dirtbag, Charlie Rangel.
Talk radio should be an educational medium. It is a poor man's school. And in school, you don't give the podium to idiots just to satisfy the teacher's ego, or to provide titillation to the brighter students who won't be fooled.
In talk radio, it's even more important to focus on the persuadables, not a fraction of the audience that will be titillated. The persuadables are mostly stupid, so there is no point in exposing them to a Rat. Broadcasting selected Rat sound bites is another matter. But allowing a Scumer or a Rangel to make a case for himself and trash the host's views is unproductive.

Get serious, Michael and Sean.

and the other major thing that changes after an acqusition - who hires the subcontractors that do alot of the work. that chain of command instantly moves to the acquiring company.

Well good for you. But people don't take their cue from you. Remember Savage is number 3 in talk radio. He has a substantial following and just like Rush, who has libs calling in saying his listeners are zombies with no brains, I suppose their are people who think Savage listeners are stupid too. Well they are not. Savage is rough around the edges but that doesn't mean he's not right alot of the time.
