There seems to be much more falling and much less beauty in skating with the new scoring system.

And maybe we can all hope that Weir gains some humility during that time

I suspect he will get aids first.

I was in the arena the night of Katarina Witt-Debbi Thomas- Liz Montgomery as well...

Nothing could beat four years ago though- my wife and I saw both the ladies short and long program...now that was nerve wracking! The arena went from heaven (Sarah Hughes performance) to hell (Michelle Kwan's slip) in a matter of 15 minutes...

"I think we should all "heavily invest ourselves" in curling. I'm serious. It's nail biting tense!"

They were just advertising today on the local radio for membership to the local curling club.

I wonder if they will have a suggestion box when these Olympics are over. Because this scoring system has to change. If they want an audience, that is.

No, I sure didn't see it coming. We've known about his health problems, of course....but the alcohol was out of nowhere. He'd been past that for 17 years. Anyway, my entire family loves him. My 2nd son is especially close to him...it's been a hard day.

My hubbys family are all Jayhawks! All from Hays and Ellis!

Ok...back to olympics...will WeirD give an interview?

Indeed and there was more choreography. Now they're simply interested in how many quads and triples they can throw in for the point factor. What a turnoff.

I actually like this better for the men's program. Just think about it -- this system may save men's figure skating from total domination by fairies like that guy Wierd. Skaters who can turn quads consistently tend to be bigger and stronger than the "artistic" ones, and it's probably no coincidence that the ones who turn quads consistently are more likely to be heterosexual.

Maybe my perception is distorted by television cameras, but a saw a close-up shot of that Russian gold medalist and I was surprised at how tall the guy looked.

I never did understand why Tara Lipinski ever got the gold medal. Every time she jumped, she was at a 45-60 degree angle to the ice. I NEVER saw her in a vertical position when she was jumping!

This is the first medals ceremony I've seen. Now I know where all those AOL discs I used as frisbees went!

I think we should all "heavily invest ourselves" in curling.

The funny thing is, I watch, I listen carefully to the announcers, and I can't figure out what the heck is going on. It looks like shuffle board? How do they score?

Why do sometimes they move go out front and move the rocks out of the way, and sometimes they don't?(After the shot)

Sutton will enter rehab but won't resign at this timeBY

BRIAN DAVIS
The Dallas Morning NewsDALLAS -

Oklahoma State coach Eddie Sutton announced late Wednesday that he would check into an alcohol rehabilitation center in the wake of an automobile accident that forced him to leave the team for the rest of the season.

Sutton, 69, has taken prescription medicine for back and neck pain for years. But Sutton made a stunning admission by phone to reporters at a news conference at Gallagher-Iba Arena.

"On Friday, the pain was so bad, so I succumbed to temptation, I went and bought a bottle," Sutton said.
Sutton was cited for driving under the influence by police in Stillwater, Okla., on Friday after he rear-ended another car at 60 mph, swerved over four lanes of traffic and smashed into a tree. Authorities have not determined if any charges will be filed.

That's the truth! They do look like dvds. Something about the hole being there to allow the love to flow from the athlete or something like that. OTOH, what do I know? I thought Candy and Monica Crowley were sisters!

LOL!!!

AOL Discs... now that's funny right there.

I'm on the West Coast and so far behind in this thread. But - for anyone else who is watching it now... this Snowboard Cross Racing thing is wicked!

LOL!!!

Maybe if the ratings stay down...and don't drastically go up tonight..and through the women's figure skating (which is the money sport in Winter Olympics)...

then maybe they will hire some consultant to find out what went wrong...but, I doubt that having just changed the scoring, they will change again...

At least next Winters will be in this hemisphere and time zones...so we can see them LIVE!!

The hole in the middle is supposed to represent the Italian piazza.

Kinda dorky, huh?

Agreed. In retrospect, Lipinski's gold medal looks like all the Grammys for Best New Artist that have gone to one hit wonders (hello Starland Vocal Band). To think that little flash in the pan jumping bean beat out the graceful Michelle Kwan who will go down as one of the greatest skaters ever!
