To: skateman

The new scoring system reminds me of the new way some schools are giving grades. Giving points for *trying* is hardly professional or Olympic.

ROFLMAO!!
God, I love this thread!
I was in such a bad earlier over Coach Sutton of my beloved Pokes....now I'm laughing!
LOL

hey had to trace over their skate marks exactly,Oh, yeah! It was called the "compulsories".
Booooring. But somehow it helped build anticipation for the main event.
Even the old rigged system was better than this. There's hasn't been the least thing exciting about the skating competition this year.

Under the old system, if you didn't make the jump, you didn't get credit for it.
More of this outcome-based, warm-and-fuzzy stuff infiltrating the sport?
Plus, IMHO, it causes the athletes to take dangerous risks (like that throw quad salchow the other night).

This whole thing just doesn't have the same "feel" it use to, for me anyway. I use to get really invested in it and there's just not enough "information" being passed to me to make me care.
Heck, if it wasn't for you all, I probably wouldn't even watch.

The new scoring system stinks. Worse than the old one, which was pretty pathetic. I read today that they weren't able to fill the stadium for the men's long program, which was unheard of in previous Olympics, and I believe its due to the insanity that this new system is creating. The judges are anonymous, which only emboldens them to cheat at a higher level than they have in the past.
I'm a long time skating fan, but when the Chinese team won the silver, after falling and stopping their routine, I threw in the towel. I couldn't watch tonight, a first for me since the 1970's.

I was in such a bad earlier over Coach Sutton of my beloved Pokes....now I'm laughing! Can we talk big 12 hoops here? If not let's start another thread. Did you see this coming with Sutton?(I'm a Jayhawk fan, but always respected Eddie.)

Under the old system, if you didn't make the jump, you didn't get credit for it. Indeed and there was more choreography. Now they're simply interested in how many quads and triples they can throw in for the point factor. What a turnoff.

Heck, if we talked about Birdshot Gate here earlier, I don't know why you can't talk about Big 12 hoops.
