WASHINGTON -- U.S. lawmakers formally asked the Bush administration Thursday to reconsider its approval of a sale giving a company in the United Arab Emirates control over significant operations at six major American ports.
The lawmakers, including four senators and three House members, sharply criticized the UAE as inconsistent in its support of U.S. anti-terrorism efforts.
They also said the country was a key transfer point for shipments of nuclear components sent to Iran, North Korea and Libya and was one of only three nations that had recognized the Taliban as Afghanistan's legitimate government.

Insanity abounds.
Sure, keep our borders porous AND let an Arab Company take over control of the ports in New York, New Jersey, Baltimore, New Orleans, Miami and Philadelphia.
Brilliant.
congressman Peter King is all over this, and he is loudly criticizing the treasury department for this decision.
We have gone nuts.
I'd like you all to meet the new guard. Hens, let me introduce Mr. Fox.
Also, keep in mind - that this has nothing to do with "hate Bush agenda". The letter written to Secretary Snow TODAY requesting a throrough investigation into this matter was written by both Republicans and Democrats.
Check out the letter written today:

National security at our ports of entry? We don't need no stinkin security...
this is a scenario the CFIUS needs to consider, it doesn't seem that they have:
"Seaports have not only been identified as terrorist targets, but also as potential low-tech gateways for the introduction of weapons of mass destruction (WMD) into the U.S. homeland. In his 2000 Foreign Affairs article, retired USCG Commander Steven Flynn mapped out a nightmare scenario:
why should a rogue state or terrorist organization invest in ballistic missile technologies when a weapon of mass destruction could be loaded into a container and sent anywhere in the world? Osama bin Laden could have a front company in Karachi, Pakistan, load a biological agent into a container ultimately destined for Newark, New Jersey, with virtually no risk that it would be intercepted. He could use a Pakistani exporter with an established record of trade in the United States. The container would then be sent via Singapore or Hong Kong to mingle with the half million containers that are handled by each of these ports every month. It could arrive in Long Beach or Los Angeles

Bears repeating.
They'll most likely hit us at every port they occupy and control including our rail stations simultaneously with smuggled wmds.
