Hit Refresh? Why Bush may be thinking about replacing Cheney. Thursday, February 16, 2006 12:01 a.m. EST The Dick Cheney shooting incident will, in a way, go away. And, in a way, not--ever. Some things stick. Gerry Ford had physically stumbled only once or twice in public when he became, officially, The Stumbler. Mr. Ford's stumbles seemed to underscore a certain lack of sure-footedness in his early policies and other decisions. The same with Jimmy Carter and the Killer Rabbit.

Be Seeing You,
Chris
You aren't thinking Rove put her up to this are you?
Yep, but she isn't interested. When 2008 comes, she's going back to private life. I just don't see her making that leap. She's personally happier at Stanford or in the private sector, which is not surprising for many conservatives.
I know I am.
Thank you, thank you so much and it's been lovely sharing these threads with you! :-)
It's been a while since we've hung out together. Hope all is well with you and yours.
Whats the difference between a plum and a prune?
You nailed it. I haven't forgotten that one either.
She's become nothing but a bitter "Estrich wannabe".........
There's something about the spotlight, getting their name in the news, that they can't get over. Best I can figure anyway.
Her opinion is worthless to me at this point.
I think this "wimmen" journalists are all going to turn to the dark side......and push for Hillary.
I hate libbers.....they are idiots.
For what, shooting a downed man?
"SOMEDAY...
"...Some president is going to put TV in its place. Someday a smart man or woman will come in and say, I don't exist to feed that thing. Get it back in its cage--I have a country to govern. It will be an interesting presidency. (It may be Bush's.)"
...Peggy Noonan, "What I Saw at the Revolution", 1990.
(I'd simply add my observation that the press at large, not merely television news, needs that reality check.)
Yeah, that "Bush is going to dump Quayle" thing worked so well.
Yes, that was it...Noonan used the "God" theme to malign Bush's speech, saying, generally, that Bush was too "God" oriented or inclined and it was a "turn off" to her and to who she thought the audience was.
I went into great detail on another site about it and quoted her column in many areas so was not at all this general, but I received a lot of very ardent criticism for "daring" to even question Noonan's piety, or whatever it was.
I found her comments incredibly offensive, now that I recall those comments. About as offensive as her speculating -- as if it's in the works, a reality outside her hairdo -- about Bush replacing Cheney.
This is, in fact, SPIN. Media posits a question as if the question's in play, already been confronted, and then carries forward "discussing" the question. Noonan really, really seems to be spinning for a Hillary job, no doubt about it.
I was right about her, despite her work for Reagan. But I now think to Reagan's credit that it was his talent reaching through Noonan's scribing more than vice versa, in her former work with Reagan as to speechwriting.
Yeah, I agree. I wish we'd have had a Cheney two termer Presidency instead of a Clinton two termer.
Hmmmm...Rove? Ha, that'd really turn up the heat on all fronts, if that's the strategy.
Seriously, you raise an excellent point there as to 2008.
I'd be pleased if they put Gingrich in the V.P., if they are, in fact, even considering a Cheney retire.
You know, Cheney's had a remarkable life and if he ever did decide he wanted to go home and fish, well, I'd not hold that against him.
But, being shown the door...nah, never happen.
But, I see these threads with the psychos that've overrun this great site and realize we very well may lose because of them.
Oh, for heaven's sake. Peggy sounds more and more like "the woman scorned" every day. Give it a rest, honey; you're not in charge anymore.
Sure...but it wasn't here on FR that I had that experience. Though, after reading about yours similarl to mine, I might just as well have been and probably would also have been equally maligned had I been here.
Oh, I'm sure someone would claim I "wasn't a conservative" because I dared to find Noonan's indignation about Bush's "God talk" speech too much for her politically-correct ears.
I think that was the most offensive quality about her, that she was presuming that "conservatives" would find inspirational speech from Bush "too" much, or even offensive, off putting.
It was as if she'd swallowed a Hillary Pill overnight. I was, actually, flabberghasted by Noonan's strangely heavy metal response (~but said ever so nicely!~) to the Bush speech.
It is.
