District Attorney-Carlos Valdez (D)

The secretary for Kenedy County Sheriff Ramon Salinas the third, Sandra Guzman, said today that reports on the incident are pending. District Attorney Carlos Valdez says the matter hasn't been referred to his office, which prosecutes criminal cases in Kenedy, Klebert and Nueces counties. He says his office would become involved only if an investigative agency finds a hint of criminal wrongdoing or a dispute about the facts.

....Texas Parks and Wildlife spokesman Tom Harvey would not provide specifics on the information gathered. He says hunting parties aren't required to report accidents. The state penal code requires people to report fatalities, and law-enforcement would investigate those.

Carlos Valdez is the District Attorney in Corpus Christi, Texas. He has been a prosecutor for the last 25 years. At the time of the Selena murder trial Mr. Valdez was serving in his first term as district attorney. Presently, he is well into his fourth elected term.

They better keep a 24 hour a day guard around Whittington, I wouldn't put it pass a DUmmy to put a pillow over his head if they thought it would land Cheney in jail.

funny but sad, i think we're getting paranoid over this....

His statement last night said everything pointed toward an accident, pending interview with the victim. This was before the "heart attack" today.

The press is pissed because a small newspaper, Corpus Christi Caller, scooped 'em. And of course it's another shot at the President. (OK, bad choice of words.)

"Well, Kenedy County is one of the least-populated counties in the nation - fewer than 500 - probably doesn't even have a DA; Kleberg County (county seat Kingsville) is likely the closest county with one, so they probably have jurisdiction."

That's exactly right. Actually Valdez is the DA out of Nueces County (Corpus Christi) which has jusridiction over Kleberg and Kenedy County too. Some of you might recall him from the Selena trial.

lots of "accidents" are investigated. auto fatalities, parents who mistakenly leave their children in a car in hot weather.

if this fellow dies, this story is going to explode. and everyone here poo-poo'ing it, is going to be sadly mistaken.

Well, not a Grand Jury, but they do have the Justice Department on their tails.

I suppose the Democrats want a good Republican and friend of the Vice to die because a) he votes Republican b) when he's well enough he's going to give the press hell for their antics c) they continue the impossible dream of taking out Cheney d) they throw a hell of a party at a funeral.

The press has absolutely lost it.

Liberals have lost it.

The American people, on the other hand, showing their detachment from the press core are praying for the friend of the VEEP and emphasizing with Cheney. I guess there are two America's after all. One of make believe the Liberals inhabit. The other America where sane folks live.

Grab the popcorn and watch the pressers implode.

It is pure Zogbyism and a partisan witchhunt. Everything they accused McCarthy of.

I was being polite, plus it's hard to imagine the wimps over there actually being violent. I think they talk the talk but fall short at walking time.

Any sissified liberal moonbat can feel tough and macho behind a keyboard.

Dem Buzzards hoping for some fresh meat...

Actually, your image is NOT one of buzzards. They look like broad winged hawks or perhaps immature red-tailed hawks.

"Buzzards" are actually vultures, of which black vultures and turkey vultures are the most common in the USA.

I know this sounds technically "picky" but unlike RATs, we conservatives here at FR always strive for accuracy in reporting.

F**k the Hudson River Fish Wrapper Co. They've been looking for the Next Big Watergate scandal since Dubya took office. Granted, getting a faceful of birdshot from a sitting veep isn't quite on the same level as him backing into your car, but you'd think he was caught setting off a nuke in Frisco 'cuz he doesn't like tofu-munching tailgunners. ('Course, I'd probably cover his back on that one.....)
