BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — Black lawmakers walked out of the Louisiana House in protest Monday after failing in an attempt to end the special session four days early — a dramatic indicator of disputes that have marred much of the session and stalled many of the governor's key initiatives.
The walkout came during a debate on levee oversight, but was a protest of what black lawmakers said was the Legislature's failure to protect the voting rights of New Orleans residents displaced by Hurricane Katrina.
Rep. Cedric Richmond, chairman of the Legislative Black Caucus, tried to adjourn the session early — a move rejected by the House — and Richmond led the walkout. He condemned his colleagues for rejecting a bill that would have made it easier for displaced Hurricane Katrina victims, now living far from home, to cast ballots for New Orleans mayor in April.
He said the special session should be halted because lawmakers had been ignoring and wrongly rejecting bills aimed at helping the poor and displaced.
"We're asking that this train be stopped, because it's off track," Richmond, D-New Orleans, said on the state Capitol steps.

They wanted to leave. They left. Looks to me like they got their way.
Translation: the black neighborhoods of NO elected these state legislators. And if a Republican gets elected to NO, there will be difficulty in mounting the kind of vote fraud that is needed
If they ain't livin' there, they shouldn't be votin' there.

I've lived all over the U.S. in my years. When I left Merced, Davis, or Citrus Heights,CA........or Colorado Springs.......or Abilene, Lubbock, or Austin, TX...or Huntsville, AL......or Ocala, FL........or....................pick your town, I did NOT ever expect to then vote for candidates in those towns, or in those States.
Black lawmakers, especially black Democratic Party lawmakers, are the worst of the lot. They belong in tinpot dictatorships in Africa where such behavior is the norm, NOT in MY United States of America.
God how I loathe these scum.
I occasionally listen to Moon Griffon via the internet. Moon is all over Louisana politics, and it sounds like the La. 'rats want to pass a law that basically states that if you live in La now, used to live in La, or if you ever wanted to live in Louisana, all you have to do is send a request stating such and they would send you a ballot.

I was born and raised in Baton Rouge, graduated from LSUSD in New Orleans in 1976. I left to join the USAF the same year and have not lived there since. I think I should be able to vote too. What's the time limit for living outside the state and still having voting rights there?? I feel like my rights are being violated, I'm a victim!!!
I think there are enough Republicans who have left that state over the years to swing the vote if that's the case.:o)
Are they going to run across the state line like the Texas demos did? Will Blanco send the National Guard after them? How much popcorn will we need for this show?

Betcha Landreiu will. She owns them. They represent her base. On the other hand, they may be following her instructions. Got to be a way to keep them on her plantation.
There is no doubt now that Louisiana is bent on showing it's worst side to the world. A shame for the good folks in the state.
