Condoleezza Rice yesterday became the latest administration official to fire back at Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, who last week ridiculed the White House's failure to nab Osama bin Laden despite his being "the tallest man in Afghanistan." The secretary of state noted on ABC's "This Week" that President Bill Clinton didn't get the 6-foot-5 him in the '90s

It never ceases to amaze me what a secret this is around here. Try googling "Condoleezza Rice + Pro-choice or Abortion."

As long as you learned something, I'm happy. I don't hate Condoleezza Rice. I just know that there are a lot of liberals salivating about bringing this up as soon as she is nominated.

I would love to see a Hitlery vs. Dr. Rice race. It would be a bloodbath and I think Condi would win big. The SCOTUS and the states are going to slug out the abortion issue, anyway - which is the way it should be.

Which makes matters worse. A woman's "right to choose" is about to become a big campaign issue again in the 2006 elections.

No, I have not forgotten who appoints SCOTUS nominees. President Rice would if she were holding the office. But I seriously doubt she would have a "litmus test" for a pro-choice nominee. That would split the Republican base, and she's too smart for that. I would expect another Roberts or Alito from her.

But she likely wouldn't try to get a pro-life nominee.

I'd rather have Newt Me too. An campaign against Hillary Clinton is one of the few scenarios where all of Newt's baggage goes out the window. He should run now, because this is the one he can win.

Well, technically speaking POTUS could veto any abortion legislation but you are right, SCOTUS appointments will be her largest area of influence. However, if it is Condi / HRC then the question becomes less of an issue unless the single-issue voters sit on their hands and give us HRC which absolutely hurts their cause. At least with Condi you would expect reasoned discourse and Condi's support against PBA, etc.

That would split the Republican base Presumably that would have already happened when she lost the election.

I doubt abortion will ever be a big issue in any future campaign. Americans are sick of fighting over it. That's Hitlery's only passion, and she couldn't very well hammer Dr. Rice for being "anti-choice".

I disagree. I think she would nominate a "constitutionalist" in the mold of Roberts or Alito or Scalia or Thomas.
