What: Grandmothers, heartbroken and enraged over the enormous loss of life and the terrible injuries in Iraq, plan to enlist in the military. The old make wars and the young die in them; on Valentine's Day, grandmothers and others will demonstrate their love for this country and its young people by enlisting in the U.S. military in place of young people. The grandmothers vehemently oppose this war; their enlistment is not a show of support for military action in Iraq. But if someone must die, let it be the old, not the young. Too many have died. Too many have been maimed. Enough. Grannies say, "End the war now."
When: Feb. 14, Valentine's Day, 2 p.m.
Where: Armed Forces Recruiting Center, 8202 Georgia Ave., Silver Spring, MD

I just wish the military would let them sign up and ship them off to boot camp.
Send them into those Afghan mountains. Maybe they can bring Bin Laden out with the scent of their fresh-baked cookies.

While any loss of American life is regrettable, the amount of fatal casulties in Iraq are far from enormous. Long live America, up the Republic!

I think there are plenty of Grannies, as well as Grandpas, that are hopping mad at what the terrorists have done to this country and would be happy to try to enlist in order to defend their kids and grandkids.
I think the best thing that FReepers could do would be to find some of them and encourage them to show up in far greater numbers than the anti-war grannies. And BTW, I think most conservatives, FReepers, and grannies are against war, but realize the need for us to finish and win what the terrorists started.
Sign 'em up. Ship 'em out.

Put 'em on permanent KP and set them to peeling potatoes with dull knives.
Crawling under barbwire on their backs in the cold mud with a machine gun firing overhead might be good for them, too.

UCMJ Article 83—Fraudulent enlistment“Any person who procures his own enlistment or appointment in the armed forces by knowingly false representation or deliberate concealment as to his qualifications for that enlistment or appointment and receives pay or allowances thereunder shall be punished as a court-martial may direct.”
Maximum punishment: Fraudulent enlistment or appointment. Dishonorable discharge, forfeiture of all pay and allowances, and confinement for 2 years.
Make them all Permanent Latrine Orderlies.
These people aren't funny and their stunts aren't cute.
