WASHINGTON - President Bush knew Saturday evening that Vice President Dick Cheney had accidentally shot a hunting companion, but the information wasnt made public until the next day by a private citizen, the White House acknowledged Monday.
In a contentious media briefing, White House spokesman Scott McClellan said Cheneys staff was focused on making sure that the shooting victim, Texas attorney Harry Whittington, was receiving adequate medical care after the shooting on the private Armstrong Ranch in south Texas. Whittington and Cheney were hunting quail together.

Hmm....a lawyer safari....ah, the possibilities!
LOL
When's the last time you went hunting, or took a basic firearms safety course?
Another self-proclaimed expert.
Oh, yeah...remember that photo that was more revealing than Cheney would have liked?
Isn't Cheney the first V-P to actually shoot someone since Aaron Burr?
And to think that Bush learned of this and did not think to call his old buddy Helen Thomas! How rude of him! I understand he DID call the NYT, but since it was not classified information, they had no interest.
You don't have a clue as to exactly what happened and you have Cheney in the old folk's home?
Be of good cheer, maybe next week or even by Thurs, you will have another good lecture for the Evil Ones of the Bush Administration.
Good Hunting!
Money. They have targeted a niche audience of hard-core DUmmie self-loathing cowards, and the MSM lets those masochistic asshats have it 24/7 with a firehose.
That's pure bullshit.
In my state, most people killed accidentally while hunting are young and in their prime, and hunting in a party of young guys.
The old guys who kick off while hunting usually do so from heart attacks.
I've got some attorneys I would like to hunting with.
What's an 8 letter word for skeet?
Dick Cheney is 65 Sparky.
Why would they want to publicize it? It was obviously an Oh Sh__ moment.
(b) I haven't been out this winter. The last time I went hunting was about a year ago - last January. I shot five-stand four or five times last summer/fall.
The last time I took a firearms safety course was about ten years ago. I took a course with my nephew before taking him on his first hunting trip.
Why don't you answer your own questions now - or are you limited to reading from your blast fax?
From your post I conclude that you are senile and showing strong signs of Alzheimer's Disease. For your own safety and those around you, please report at once to the local Senile Citizen's Center and pick up your bingo card.
All right then.
And I don't have a fax machine.
They are just the WH press corps; they have become elitist aholes.
I was born onto one in '64 and ran like hell as soon as I could.
It was a private ranch, very elitist, only the finest
flatbeds onto which one might fling one's haybales.
Typical MSM BS.....double standard....reminds one of when Bill Clinton injured himself at Greg Norman's FL. place...MSM never questioned it one bit.
"And that's what concerns me about the fact that this would not have been reported unless it was leaked"
It was Cheney on 09/11/2001 who authorized shooting down any threatening planes, relaying to Rumsfeld that these were the President's instructions and he believed one or two had already been taken out...
