Jury: Airline not racist

"A jury on Friday said Southwest Airlines did not racially discriminate against an overweight passenger when she was asked to buy a second seat on her flight."
"The jury deliberated for a little over an hour before finding against Nadine Thompson, who sued Southwest in federal court. She claimed that she was singled out because she is black and that the airlines "customer of size" policy was unfairly applied to her after she boarded a flight at Manchester Airport in June 2003."
" Southwests policy states that a "customer of size" is someone who cant sit in a seat without having the armrest raised and is sitting on part of the adjacent seat. Thompson, who said she doesnt consider herself a customer of size, didnt challenge the policy; rather, she claimed, it allows any random employee to operate "in a discriminatory way about that policy." "
"Joel Drake, a Southwest employee, testified earlier Friday that Thompson accused him of being a "motherf--- racist pig" and wished that his family would die from cancer when he tried to explain the companys policy to her."

Wrong planes. That fat a** would need a C5 and about 3000 more feet of runway.

Did you laugh at the cartoons?
If so, you are as bad as those who laugh at fat people, by your own standard.

Obviously this was the right verdict, and ideally the plaintiff should have to pay attorneys' fees for wasting everyone's time. But one thing I've not heard explained: what exactly happens after the fat passenger pays for the extra seat? Does the person next to them get a partial or full refund? If not, it kind of defeats the purpose: the harm isn't to the airline, but to other passengers who are deprived of the full use of the seat that they paid for.

no, it's the cheap shots that are flying around here. It really is shameful.

Why do you insist on bringing islam into it? When groups of fat 'youts' start rioting and burning property because the owners were skinny, I'd see a correlation between being fat and being an islamofacist hell bent on killing infidels.

As I've said twice before, it's an analogy.
Some people, here on this thread and in Denmark, are laughing at a situation that offends other people. Can you truly not see the parallel?

I caught it the first time.
I didn't see any embassies being burned to the ground or marches by the tens of thousands shouting death to any religion when 'Christ in piss' or 'Mary' in elephant dung was declared "ART."

Let's see some of them substitute the word black or Jewish to their comments instead of fat"Black" or "Jewish" doesn't spill over into the next seat.
"Black" or "Jewish" doesn't require extra fuel to cart around the countryside.

I watch the show, Airport, I think is the name of it. It's a series with real passengers in real situations at the airport. I've seen a couple of episodes where they have charged a large person for a second seat. They have an employee come out and ascertain whether or not that person is too big for one seat. I haven't seen any of them go over the edge like the woman in this thread.

I tend to think, given the numbers of people who are on the heavy side, that the airlines should probably be making some sort of accomadation for them. They do. It's called first class.

"the airlines should probably be making some sort of accomadation for them."
I agree. Let's see, we have Virgin Airlines, and Hooters, why not FATASS AIRLINES. "Yehahaaaa!! Soooeeee" could be the boarding call!!
Why should I show respect and deference to someone grossly obese. That tells me they have no self respect or control. Same as a smoker. I should not be penalized for their indulgences.

Someone was giving me a hard time because I am bald. Actually this happens all the time.
My retort is that I did not chose to be bald. I do chose not to be fat and obnoxious.
Growing up, most adults in my family were overweight and smokers. I decided not to be either. For 90% of people, being fat (like smoking) is a PERSONAL CHOICE.

Welcome to the club.I take this to mean you're sticking with your cockamamie assertion that "fat" is the same as "black" or "Jewish".
