Violent Crime Rising Sharply in Some Cities

MILWAUKEE — One woman here killed a friend after they argued over a brown silk dress. A man killed a neighbor whose 10-year-old son had mistakenly used his dish soap. Two men argued over a cellphone, and pulling out their guns, the police say, killed a 13-year-old girl in the crossfire.

While violent crime has been at historic lows nationwide and in cities like New York, Miami and Los Angeles, it is rising sharply here and in many other places across the country.

And while such crime in the 1990's was characterized by battles over gangs and drug turf, the police say the current rise in homicides has been set off by something more bewildering: petty disputes that hardly seem the stuff of fistfights, much less gunfire or stabbings.

Suspects tell the police they killed someone who "disrespected" them or a family member, or someone who was "mean mugging" them, which the police loosely translate as giving a dirty look. And more weapons are on the streets, giving people a way to act on their anger.

Police Chief Nannette H. Hegerty of Milwaukee calls it "the rage thing."

"We're seeing a very angry population, and they don't go to fists anymore, they go right to guns," she said...

You know, I would SWEAR that I saw an article posted around here just last week that said crime rates were at their lowest in something like...ever.

Crime rate increase/decrease trends can not be assessed year to year. Especially since the yearly murder rates that show an increase are measured in 5 or 10 per 100,000. That is scarcely a crime wave. Especially when you are trying to blame it on an increase in gun permits from 700 to 32,000. This is just dumb.

Also, I noticed it says the 1990s saw a decline while it is going up now. That is so obviously agenda driven it's laughable.

There is credibility to the article. My local cops are attributing it to hispanic surnamed crimnals and victims. Emotion apparently runs high on how they think and act.

It's like breaking out the SAT scores by race - when the AJC doesn't do that - it's the dog that doesn't bark. Race has a great deal to do with violent crime - and by masking that fact the media is helping no one.

That's definately a reason to disarm America. All those robbers walking around with gun permits have to be stopped.

The article dances around ethnic and racial and illegal immigration issues related to this reported upsurge in murders, but strangely the reasons are still portrayed as mysterious and unknowable. It couldn't be that PC is preventing an esteemed news source such as the New York Times from frank and honest reporting, could it?

I never heard any of these(Antichrist's, anti-God) so-call leaders ever address this. These districts , mayors, county leaders,state senators,state rep's,U.S. Congressman, U.S. Senators, and governor had been democrats for over 20-30+ years.

The only time there was a Republican was when Tommy Thompson was governor.
