Government Calls Conference to Study 2 Deadly Infections (Killed 4 who took RU-486 abortion pill)
New York Times ^ | 2/11/06 | GARDINER HARRIS

WASHINGTON, Feb. 10 — The federal government has called an unusual scientific conference to look into two related bacterial infections, one that killed four California women who took an abortion pill and the other that has caused outbreaks of diarrhea and colitis in hospitals and nursing homes across the nation.

Fifteen to 20 scientists who have studied the two bacteria have been asked to present their research at the conference, scheduled for May 11, an official at the Food and Drug Administration said Friday. The official spoke on the condition of anonymity because the abortion pill, Mifeprex or RU-486, is so controversial that some officials have been threatened after speaking about it publicly.

Security at the conference will be unusually tight, the official said. It will be held in an auditorium at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta. Attendees must register by April 15. The National Institutes of Health will also participate in the conference, according to a federal register notice.

Officials are concerned that the political controversy swirling around medical abortions may interfere with the scientific discussion, the F.D.A. official said in an interview.

Sockmonkey:
Have not done research to verify, but believe like Hy Pylori was discovered in Australia was cause for 90%of ulcers was available for many years (Drug companies didn't want to lose profits or costs of developing other meds and OTC remedies for stomach problems.) So this is my belief with abortion pill. It was available in Europe for many years before it was used here legally. It was the RU 486. The year maybe off, it may have been 1958. It was just prior to the birth control devices that came out in 1960. Before that had to take temperature a lot for birth control. (failed a lot). I remember it being discussed at the time. Will do more research just to satisfy your question and my curiosity to find what is documented. US has many secrets mostly to make money for the "chosen few".

I ought to type fast, I was a programmer for years. Do you think twidle is for real? RU 486 in 1953, Ha ha. Or else my ulcer medicine gave me an abortion! Maybe a sob story troll with a born on date of 12/30/05?

The perfect abuse story PLUS a back alley (dirty doctor's office) abortion sounds like the NARAL/NOW/Dim talking points all rolled into one!!!

No offense, but your entire post was about me, me, me. You totally forgot to mention the tiny life that you snuffed out with the little "God-sent" pill. And the other tiny life taken in a filthy doctor's office. You were too young and no one told you about adoption? Your mistakes cost 2 children their lives.

You said young women will always try to do something to prevent unwanted pregnancy. When RU486 is taken you are either already pregnant or not pregnant. If you are not pregnant, you are only hurting yourself. If you are pregnant when you take the pill, the only thing you are preventing at that point is the continuation of life.

Equating rape with being married to an irresponsible male? What?? You voluntarily married him, rape is not voluntary.

No offense, again, but you seem like a troll. Using class warfare ("the rich have always had a choice") to justify killing two children is sooo DUish.

Out of curiosity, what advice would you give a daughter after considerable experience flaunting society's conventions? Have you learned ANYTHING?

Well, there two professionals who had been educated in
this country who aided and abetted me, two doctors. I do think about
the two lives that were ended. I also remember the horrible
way women were treated for being poor and without money. I believe that I will be forgiven, not by people with your way of thinking but a higher power.

Claire: My advice is still to chose a partner who really loves you before having sex, but realize this is futile and usually falls on deaf ears.

Claire: Where do you live?? Society's conventions is what
happened to me and then some. We in society still do not
have solution acceptable to you but "abstinance" or responsible couples. Most of us learn the hard way, and many rely on tube tying, mental illness, suicide, et al.
Birth Control pills have been a lot of help, but some people don't approve of that either.
What happened to me is society's convention, have you noticed and I believe that you are the "troll" without meaning to be "rude".

"Well, there two professionals who had been educated in
this country who aided and abetted me, two doctors".

So? Just because two people went to college doesn't mean they are doing the right thing. I'm really not trying to be mean, just trying to get you to see that advocating for RU486 and/or abortion is wrong. Especially when you say that you think of the two lives that were lost and speak of being forgiven. Why would you then continue to promote the loss of more lives? I don't understand.

You have sympathy for the poor women without money, yet when she ends the life of her child she simply trades lack of money for blood on her hands. Why does that have to be the answer? Money comes and goes, but ending the life of a baby is permanent.

Abortions destroy human life whether they are surgical or chemical (Plan B, RU 486, "The Pill"). Its about life and death.

Nextrush: Have you noticed a lot of decisions are about life and death with varying degrees. We all have hopefully to extend our own lives first. No, have not
had problem with cancer.

There is always ONE certain death when an abortion commited. When people quote statistics of how many women die during "back alley abortions", conspicuous by it's absence it the number of infants who have died.

PS. there is no nobility in feigned non-comprehension, my post was quite clear.

I'm sorry, but I've had 4 miscarriages, and I could tell you the month/year that I lost each of them. I find it difficult to believe you can't remember the exact year you had an abortion!

Especially when the range is 5 years and the person is yong. Whether you are 15 or 20 ot 25 is a huge difference and is something you would definitely remember.

I thought RU 486 was invented in the 80's in Europe?

According to some serious researchers the RU 486 pill is an off shoot of experimental drugs created in Germany during WWII... to abort.

The company had France link then was seen as legitimate after some decades... but right, I think the pill in today's known formula was recent.

No female should be forced to have a baby she does not want!! As long as men have "mindless sex" women must have alternative also.
