MADISON, Wis. -- Students at La Follette High School are making sure every student has a voice through the use of their school newspaper, WISC-TV reported.
With the first edition of La Follette Lance in 2006, the newspaper began targeting students who thought they had been forgotten.
For example, Andres Garcia enjoys the entire page of Spanish articles the Lance editors and writers produce for each issue.
"This is something that was actually overdue," Garcia said. "That was something we should have had years ago."
We want reading the Lance to be easy and fun," said Lance co-editor and senior Julia Haslanger. "For some students, reading English is not easy. It's a task; it's a challenge."
The Lance staff said it is not satisfied solely with the Spanish language page and is currently working on writing and printing stories for Hmong students as well.

I demand mandatory readings from Wiccan literature for the heck of it! And no cartoons, or Valentine's Day messages!

When we make accomodations for non-English speakers, we make things easier for them in the short run, but in the long run, we reduce their odds of success, by diminishing the sense of urgency they would otherwise have felt about learning English as quickly and as well as they can.
An immigrant's long term prospects for success in this country are vastly improved by English proficiency. Early total immersion in English, while difficult at first, pays long term dividends.

But is it madatory for advancement in a country were it is the primary language and a world were it is the international language of commerce.
Not challenging them to adapt, is truly the crime. Holding them back, rather enabling them to move forward.

Liberal Guilt! Our kids are indoctrinated in this cr@p from Kindergarten on. Once they reach High School, "diversity" is second nature to them in all that they do.
"Stand for nothing, fall for anything" mentality.
I am so glad my kid is done with school and is on to a technical college where he'll learn real-world skills. He's going to make a Fine Young Capitalist in another few years. De-Programming him on a daily basis while he was in middle & high school was a lot of work, LOL! (I could not home school him, because he's my Step-Son & his Bio-Mom had the say in where he went to school.)
