Paul Harvy's comments on Russia and Hamas
Paul Harvey ^ | 10 Feb 06

Friday Morning recording 11 Feb 06

Russia's Vladimir Putin, bold and brave is plunging into the Middle East peace process inviting one on one talks with Hamas. Says no way can he do worse than the other peace mediators who seem paralyzed. Washington considers Hamas a terrorist organization and won't talk to them at all. Putin figures he can't do worse than that

I think Paul Harvey and Dick Clark are the 2 last remaining Highlanders...and in the end, there can only be one.

A little blood here and there keeps the youthful looks. :0) Either that or he's just an immortal.

For those who hate Putin, Russia and Russians, there will always be complaints about whatever he does.
He won't be able to ever do anything right.

I'm with Putin on this one. He might fail but it won't be worse than the U.S. has done.

One would guess Israel and the US should just start bombing Hamas with no talks whatsoever. Russian actions provide the US with an opportunity for indirect talks. There is time for action later.

Paul Harvey's comments on post 9/11 America:

"Following New York, Sept. 11, Winston Churchill was not here to remind us that we didn’t come this far because we’re made of sugar candy.

So, following the New York disaster, we mustered our humanity. We gave old pals a pass, even though men and money from Saudi Arabia were largely responsible for the devastation of New York and Pennsylvania and our Pentagon. We called Saudi Arabians our partners against terrorism and we sent men with rifles into Afghanistan and Iraq, and we kept our best weapons in our silos.

Even now we’re standing there dying, daring to do nothing decisive, because we’ve declared ourselves to be better than our terrorist enemies -- more moral, more civilized. Our image is at stake, we insist.

But we didn't come this far because we're made of sugar candy. Once upon a time, we elbowed our way onto and into this continent by giving small pox infected blankets to native Americans. Yes, that was biological warfare! And we used every other weapon we could get our hands on to grab this land from whomever. And we grew prosperous. And, yes, we greased the skids with the sweat of slaves.

So it goes with most great nation-states, which--feeling guilty about their savage pasts--eventually civilize themselves out of business and wind up invaded and ultimately dominated by the lean, hungry up-and-coming who are not made of sugar candy."

Sure Putin will talk to hamas, and if he plays his cards right he may even be able to sell them some missiles like he is selling in Iran. My advice is get the money COD Putey.

I don't hate Putin, Russia, or Russians. But this is ridiculous.

And how about him calling for an apology for the cartoons. Hello? How about an apology for the riots?

Something is either up or Putin is taking female hormones.

You forgot Bob Barker. Isn't he still kicking? He is also a pugilist of some renown.

So pre-emptively bomb a democratically elected leadership in the Middle East? What lesson does leave for the Bush doctrine of 'spreading democracy'? You elect who the West wants or else? What does that do for the Bush doctrine of 'spreading democracy'?

Of course if 'spreading democracy' is extended to Syria and Iran, the sort of theocracies that will arise there may make what Hamas has look like a kindergarten case

Yeah kissing the butt of a terrorist organization is a great idea.

Yes they are, for us. On the other hand, we list the KLA as a freedom fighter and arm them knowing they butcher Christian Serbs, while the Russians list them as a terrorist organization. Same goes for the MLA (Macedonia Liberation Organization, a branch of the KLA). The real issue is that while we play at a war on terror, they are only terrorists if they are attacking our interests. Why else do we out right arm Pakistan a nation that trains and arms terrorists who kill several hundred Indians each year? Oh and the Taliban was also a Pakistani creation, but we won't go there.

How in the hell can Putin do any worse for Israel that we have?

We support the PA which is a terrorist organization....frankly I think criticizing Russia is rank hypocrisy.

That terrorist organization is in power only because we push for elections. What did we think, the people weren't going to elect who they wanted but keep Arafag's old bunch in power?

Point is, you can't take a cookie cutter solution, like elections everywhere. Some areas it is better for us to have a dictator in power who can supress his own home grown psychos rather then to have them come to power.

By the way, the PLO is a flat out terrorist organization that we transformed into a "respected" organization....the same way we did the KLA. We've supported the PLO financially now for 10 years and morally too, forcing israel to commit national suicide.
