WASHINGTON Senate Democratic Leader Harry Reid portrays convicted lobbyist Jack Abramoff's activities as involving only Republicans. But Abramoff's billing records and congressional correspondence tell a different story.
They show Abramoff's lobbying team billed for nearly two dozen contacts with Reid's office in a single year to mostly discuss Democratic legislation that would have set the minimum hourly wage for the Northern Mariana Islands, an Abramoff client, initially almost $3 lower than other U.S. states and territories.
Reid, D-Nev., also wrote at least four letters to the Bush administration helpful to Indian tribes Abramoff represented, often collecting donations from Abramoff-related sources around the same time.
And in the midst of the contacts, Abramoff's firm hired one of Reid's top legislative aides to lobby for the tribal and Marianas clients. The aide then helped throw a fundraiser for Reid at Abramoff's firm.

Dingy, dirty Harry needs to come clean. What did he know and when did he know it?
Will the Republicans take advantage of this news or just let it get buried and people forget about all of this by November?
Harry Reid, liberal Democrat (as if there is any other kind) and party leader. Nothing to see here, folks, move on...
Meanwhile this is going on:
WASHINGTON, Feb. 2 -- In a blatant effort to punish Native Americans for a lawsuit that has won them the right to an accounting of their mismanaged trust accounts, the Interior Department is threatening to withhold millions of dollars in funds from Indian tribes across the nation.
This is a cruel effort to inflict even more pain on the victims of the governments long- acknowledged misbehavior, said Elouise Cobell, a Blackfeet Indian from Montana who is the lead plaintiff in the class action lawsuit. It is just plain despicable.
In a Dear Tribal Leader letter dated Jan. 26, Associate Deputy Interior Secretary James Cason declared that Interior plans to pay the $7.1 million that a federal judge had directed the government to pay to the Cobell plaintiffs through cuts in various Indian programs.
Harry Reid and others should be helping rather than taking money for their campaigns. Gale Nortons office should be investigated.
Do the numbers square up?
Where are the IRS snoopes on this one?
I guess we won't hold our collective breaths, waiting for the MSM to demand that Dingy Harry step down...
I never hear much about the Department of the Interior. It would be interesting if someone did some digging. I would imagine there is enough corruption to go around.
The Reid story is breaking on Saturday for a reason...
I know it's breaking but watch how it unfolds. First will come the denials, then the circling of the wagons around Reid by his fellow Dems, then a backing away from the story by the MSM as they refocus on the Republicans. This happens time and again when Democrats get in trouble.
Why is their hypocrisy not being bellowed from every roof top demanding his resignation from "his leadership" position?
These lying hypocrite commies charged, convicted, frog marched and sentenced Tom DeLay to prison before any thing actually existed against him.
"will the Republicans take advantage of this news"
While Coservative blogs will rant and rave about the hypocrisy of lyin', slimin' reid, the party will, as always, take no action to dishonor this most dishonorable fellow.
Poor stupid corrupt Dingy Reid....he fell right into Rove's trap...
Rove will hang Abramoff around Reid's neck like a stinking
Albatross....
Semper FI""
I can only hope: From your lips to God's ears.
