As France was busy blocking America at the U.N. Security Council, Americans were busy launching a boycott of French wine. It worked. Larry Chavis and Phillip Leslie estimate that American sales of French wine, calculated by volume, sank by an average of 13% during the first six months of the Iraq war. At the peak of the boycott, weekly French wine sales were 26% short of the normal level. The researchers estimate that this translated to a $112 million reduction in sales during the period they studied. Messrs. Chavis and Leslie focused on four cities in particular - Boston, Houston, Los Angeles, and San Diego - for their high per capita wine consumption and varied political trends, and discovered that liberal Los Angeles came second in boycott participation only to conservative San Diego. In short, France's decision to antagonize America was an economic flop.

As Rush would say: "For those of you in Rio Linda, that's over a tenth of a billion dollars..."
Oenology news ping.
BORe is going to be very happy to hear this news....I will be very surprised if he doesn't mentions the success of the boycott on Monday's Factor.
And just as I'm pinging the group I hear The Bloviator on the cable re-broadcast talking about this boycott.
Have not bought (knowingly) a French product since early 2002.
HA HA this too funny LOL!
I'm not buying any French cheese, either.
And I'm not ending the boycott until the French have laid down their lives for America the way our troops laid down their lives for France at Normandy. Sorry, mere words or apologies cannot make up for their treacherous ingratitude.
Boycotts do work!
BTW, do Muslims in France drink wine?
Many of the American branded products are French. There is a list around here that, if you studied it, the list would surprise you.
Will you buy their products if they surrender to us? They are expert surrenderers (is that a word?)

He spoke of it today.
Incredible.
Hi, fairly new Freeper from UK - what started this ban? I picked up on it yesterday. What did France do? Can you refer me to a good article or otherwise give a brief account,
Warm regards,
Like the Mouse that Roared?
If the French surrendered to us, they'd expect us to start paying for their welfare benefits.

How about WWI too? Bring them all home.
Drink more Aussie wine.
Evian has tanked also.
No pun intended? Hehe, Evian = naive spelled backwards
And Viet Nam.
