Turkish youths threaten to kill Catholic friar
Reuters ^ | 10 Feb 2006

A group of Turkish youths threatened to kill a Catholic friar, grabbing him by the throat and shouting "God is Greatest", just days after a Catholic priest was shot dead in Turkey, the friar said on Friday.

Martin Kmetec, a Franciscan friar from Slovenia, opened the door of his house on Thursday to find seven or eight angry men in their twenties.

"He took me by the throat and pulled me inside and said 'we're going to finish you off' ... he also said Allahu Akbar (Arabic for God is Greatest)," Kmetec told Reuters by telephone from his church in the province of Izmir.

Kmetec closed the door on the youths, who said they were nationalists and the group, after trying to break the door down, left.

A local police spokesman said they were investigating.

Turkey, a secular state with an overwhelming Muslim majority, was shocked last Sunday by the shooting of a 61-year-old Italian priest, Andrea Santoro, in his church.

A 16-year-old boy has been charged with the murder, which coincided with an international uproar over the publication of cartoons depicting the Prophet Mohammad.

Turkey's government, which is under pressure from the European Union to improve minority religious rights, strongly condemned the shooting and invited Pope Benedict this week to visit.

I don't suppose it would help if someone told these lunatics that Denmark is not a Catholic country?

Since they protested the US, since the US "runs europe," what do you think?

These muzzies are masters of marketing, aren't they. Why, I'll bet everyone out there sitting on the fence is just itching now to start praying 5 times a day, and yanking their daughters out of University...

In another article about this same thing, the Turkish "youths" were also quoted as saying, "We will kill you all!" Just warms the cockles of your heart, doesn't it?

This has to be false. Turkey is a peaceful, secular country. /s

Turkish kids started killing Catholic priests in response to Danish cartoons. You go figure the logic.

"Blessed are those who are persecuted because of me"

Jesus will honor those of us who are attacked because of our loyalty to Him.

I pray for those whose lives are in danger from Muslims.

This must be a bad translation or else it's really bad reporting.

Martin Kmetec...opened the door of his house...to find seven or eight angry men..."He took me by the throat and pulled me inside"...Kmetec closed the door on the youths...after trying to break the door down, left.

Before Kmetec closed the door, how did he get the youths out of his house?

Islam tends to encourage the bullying instinct. If you are angry at infidels, it's easier to kill the nearest westerner or Christian than to kill those who actually inspired your anger. What difference does it make? They are all infidels, anyway, and it's the legitimate right of any Muslim to kill infidels if he feels like it.

So, They might kill a group of Catholic schoolgirls walking home from school. Or they might kill a Catholic friar, just because he happened to be handy.

History shows that some Muslims can be brave. But an awful lot of them are cowardly bullies, who prefer to kill women and children when they vent their "righteous anger."

The early history of Muhammed's conquests reveal that he persuaded some people to follow him because they admired his sheer ruthlessness. "Gosh. If we become Muslims we will belong to the stronger side, and we will have the right to kill, rape, or enslave whoever we like whenever we like. Sounds good!"

Are you sure the youths weren't just "dissidents" or "freedom fighters?"

Yes, I just read a book about it, 'The Tigris Is Burning'.

We should take a lesson from that terrible holocaust. The mullahs were calling for jihad even back in 1907. The Twin Towers were just business as usual.

What most people don't know is that Turkey funded several University chairs here, major universities, and placed in them professors who would help Turkey deny it ever happened.

Our limp-wristedness really really worries me.

Kolo,
Heard anything about the Orthodox remnant in Turkey?

Something tells me the "youths" won't be all that discerning between a Catholic or Orthodox monk.

"Kolo,

Nothing more than the usual harassment, the occassional grenade and public indignities. So far as I know, no one has been killed yet over this cartoon business.
