US President George W. Bush was to say in a speech that international cooperation helped thwart a terrorist attack on the US west coast, according to White House spokesman Scott McClellan.
McClellan did not provide any details about the plot, or the way it was prevented, but told reporters the purpose of Bush's remarks was to "show the kind of international cooperation that is required" to defeat terrorism.
He also said the goal was not to justify Bush's controversial order, after the September 11, 2001 attacks, to allow spying on Americans without getting a warrant, in a break with past practice.
I hope we learn some more details about that, someday. Or were we already told, but I missed it?
ohhh You had to suggest lighting up. :)
Sounds like the bombs were small, and were to be used to get through the locked and reinforced cockpit doors. I'm guessing the terrorists would remove them first.
I feel no need to explain to YOU. However, in theory, shoe bombs would be thought to be hard to detect. We didn't begin to inspect people's shoes at airports until Richard Reid. This LA plot was shortly after 9-11. Box cutters weren't gonna cut it anymore (ha!)As to the tactics involved, I leave that to the terrorists. They aren't perfect, you know. (Really, they're not, it just seems like they are with the kind of coverage they get...)
Some dweeb on with Roger Hedgecock is actually questioning this??? Oh no it's not because of Bush or anything he's done. Not fisa! It's ok for foreign countrys to tap but we can't??
Dope!
What's with the allcaps YOU bit? Did I whiz in your Cheerios or something? I was simply curious how one would go about commandeering a plane with a shoe bomb. "I'll leave that up to the terrorists" ain't much of an answer. The 'use it to blow the cockpit door' is far better, but assumes (a) that they have the skill to blow the door but not hard the plane envelope and (b) they wouldn't get beaten before, during, and after such an effort.
There was plenty of talk about this in 2002. The detail about hearing a phone conversation is fresh.
"there is no terrorist threat"...
or as Bill Maher claimed last night after being reminded that it's been more than 4 years since an attack, "the terrorists like to wait a long time between attacks".
Interesting. Thanks. I haven't been to LA since the 70's.
bttt!
Thanks.
It's so refreshing to have a President who does his job instead of wasting time with an intern getting a hummer prior to meeting with the leader of the PLO. It's obvious that the Dems cannot protect the country and don't really feel it's an important subject. Only thing they care about it the next upcoming election year.
another example of why the dems are losing election after election and will continue. I have yet in my personal life met anybody who believes bush needs a warrant to spy on al quiada, even those who cannot stand him
Did he sit for 6 hours at Corretta Kings funeral?
Bad use of time, that pandering business.
and Daschle is very concerned.. that this president would fear monger the populace.. lmao
No...he left after 3 hours & unfortunately, sometimes, we all have to do things simply for the sake of 'diplomacy'... even the president of the United States of America.
Bad use of time, that pandering business.
Pandering or good manners? Good manners SHOULD come with this office...just because the last president didn't have any does not negate this requirement.

The 72-story U.S. Bank Tower is the tallest office building on the West Coast, and the signature building for downtown Los Angeles:
Location: Los Angeles
Year built: 1989
Architect: I.M. Pei & Partners
Building area:
Net rentable square feet: 1,374,883
Detailed description
U.S. Bank Tower (formerly known as Library Tower) was developed in 1989 as part of the $1.0 billion Los Angeles Central Library Redevelopment Plan, which provided the bulk of the funds for the restoration and expansion of the Los Angeles Central Library into an institution of international stature, as well as the creation of the Maguire Gardens.
Designed by I.M. Pei & Partners, U.S. Bank Tower is neither round nor square, offering an interlocking set of granite planes and curves that step down in a series of terraces and ledges to colonnades of glass at the base. The lobby houses "Unity", a giant mixed media mural by Russian born artists Vitaly Komar and Alexander Melamid, that depicts the history of the City of the Angels.
Café Pinot and McCormick & Schmick's, two of downtown's most popular restaurants, serve U.S. Bank Tower tenants from locations within Maguire Gardens and adjacent to the Bunker Hill steps. The Maguire Gardens serve as a graceful urban park adjacent to the historic Los Angeles Central Library. Landscape architect Lawrence Halprin created the new 1 1/2 acre park, which features major fountains that incorporate the work of California artists. The Bunker Hill Steps offer 50 feet of curving stage set for pedestrians, shoppers and people watchers. At the top of the Steps, the award winning sculpture "The Source Figure" surveys the scene.

If we had a free press in this country, they would stand in front of that building and ask everybody who works there (1) are you concerned about wiretapping terrorists without a warrant? (2) are you concerned about pretending to drown a terrorist?
Yessss!
The question is, WWJBD?
