A Portland Police officer who was injured while firing a handgun has filed a multi-million-dollar lawsuit against the manufacturers of the gun and the ammunition.
Officer Florin B. Pirv was taking a qualification test in March 2004 with a .45 caliber Glock 21 when the breech/cartridge feed ramp fractured, causing backward propulsion of hot gases, hot air, and shrapnel to be blown into Pirvs face, body, and hands, according to the suit.
The lawsuit names Glock and two ammunition-makers, Federal Cartridge Company and Alliant Technosystems, also known as ATK. Glock is based in Georgia. The ammunition-makers are based in Minnesota.
None returned phone calls and emails seeking comment.
Pirv was one of two Portland officers injured while firing .45-caliber Glocks in March 2004, prompting Portland Police Chief Derrick Foxworth to order the recall of the weapons carried by 230 officers.
The bureau replaced them with 9mm Glocks.
Pirvs suit seeks $50,000 in compensatory damages, $3 million for pain and suffering and $50 million in punitive damages.
Pirv is assigned to a patrol shift, according to a Portland Police spokeswoman.

I also use Federal and CCI (MY fav). The thing seems to eat everything except the Winchester 22LR cheap stuff.
The Nero is supposed to be a precision firearm. Are you using thick oil or grease because I also notice that the recoil spring is fairly weak. It really could use a stiffer spring. Maybe yours is just under the needed strength to function properly.

"But they've discontinued H4227 as they now took over the IMR series of powders and said they don't need two brands of 4227. Unfortunate."
Interesting. Hodgdon said they wouldn't do that when the purchase occurred.
Yes, really a shame about Winchester. Actually it was US Repeating Arms (USRAC) owned by Fabrique Nationale (FN) in Belgium which merely licensed the Winchester name. From what I understand Winchester powders is still owned by Olin. I know Winchester has licensed their name to a bunch of different entities for income.
Maybe some group will purchase the gun division in the near future and move it to a more business and gun friendly state. It's certainly possible as Ithaca was just purchased back in December by a company in Ohio and is up and running with modern CNC equipment. The quality is supposed to improve greatly also.

East of Albuquerque.
Mostly vintage Smiths, trap and skeet.

I used to clean it every hundred rounds or so.
I gave up on it and it's sitting in its box now.
To: Tijeras_Slim
The older Smiths were better made, but more expensive to produce. No more counter-bored cylinders for the case rims to fit into. Vintage and classic.

If i recall , the Glock manual also recommends not using reloads, either.

Well I just happen to have a manual laying about. Page 15 in RED print warns against the use of reloaded ammo. In fact it voids the warranty.

All my favorites were 4 and 5 screw from the 50's, although I've got some pre-war as well.

Thanks for the link. The old Ithaca "Featherlite" shotguns were really nice. Only weighed about five and a half pounds and had bottom ejection. Pump gun. 20 gauge was best in this model.

Yes, there is +P+ .45 ACP, but I think all of it is for law enforcement only.
Limited use only, really beats up your gun. Use only for actual self-defense.

Accurate Reloading hosted a bunch of mpg videos of people shooting the T-Rex. They were hilarious. I went back to the site that listed the videos, but discovered the web server no longer has the videos.
I opted for the 82 oz Hunter Performance model of the 500 S&W Magnum. The extra weight helps with the recoil and makes it very pleasant to shoot. The Corbon factory 275 gr Barnes X bullet feels like shooting a 255 gr 45LC from the Ruger .454 Casull. Very pleasant, controllable and accurate. I reload that brass with Speer 325 gr Gold Dot. Still pleasant to shoot and easier to find supplies.

Good morning.
"Sound familiar?"
Not really, but I was out of the country around that time. I can't say that I've heard of many NDs by 1911 shooters, or shooters with decockers in guns that work as they are intended to. I have had shooters look at me in horror for carrying cocked and locked who have no problem with carrying a double action.
I've met plenty of 1911 owners who don't understand how Mr. Brownings design is supposed to work. There are many of dumb people out there, for sure. The bottom line for me is that there are few bad guns, but many bad shooters. I believe firearms use and safety eduction should begin in grade school if it isn't already being taught at home. Teach the children right and it won't matter what kind of gun they shoot. They might even learn to vote intelligently.

"And it still worked."
Yeah, but did the salesman accidentally shoot the store owner when he put the gun away?

Good morning
"Firing when at suspects on the ground is entirely the fault of the shooter, and the same accidents happen with any other firearm."
It's true. A couple of the reasons we hear about it so often with Glocks is that so many Departments now use them rather than spend more time and money training their officers and the media just loves the name.
There isn't much better than a gun thread to start the day off right, is there.
