Evangelical leaders fight global warming

WASHINGTON, Feb. 8 (UPI) -- A group of 86 evangelical Christian leaders are reportedly supporting a major initiative to fight global warming.

Warning "millions of people could die in this century because of climate change," the leaders include the presidents of 39 evangelical colleges, aid groups and churches, such as the Salvation Army, and pastors of megachurches, including Rick Warren, author of the best seller "The Purpose-Driven Life," The New York Times reported Wednesday.

"For most of us, until recently this has not been treated as a pressing issue or major priority," the Christian leaders said in a statement to be officially released Wednesday. "Indeed, many of us have required considerable convincing before becoming persuaded that climate change is a real problem and that it ought to matter to us as Christians. But now we have seen and heard enough."

The religious leaders are urging enactment of federal laws curtailing carbon dioxide emissions through "cost-effective, market-based mechanisms."

The leaders told the Times their statement represents the start of an "Evangelical Climate Initiative" that will include television and radio ads, informational campaigns in churches, and educational events at Christian colleges.

Or god causes global warming, creationism, and earthquakes.

Read the link...Real science debunks man caused global warming.

"What is delusional about global warming? Are you saying that the greenhouse effect isn't real and human CO2 emission does not contribute to it? I guess oil PR firms' "swallow everything we say" is the real truth, while scientific research is just hogwash."

There is no doubt that a greenhouse effect can occur, in isolation. however none of the models for global warming include ALL of the components in our closed-loop system. Many of those components can and do have the power to counter-act the effects of the Co2 and other gases. (for instance they do not account for increased algae blossoms in the oceans which are the worlds primary consumers of C02 and producers of O2)

A team of Irish-led and EU-funded scientists has discovered a new link between marine algae and climate change. They found that iodine vapours, released from algae or plankton, condense to form aerosol 1 particles over oceans. These aerosols can have a significant impact on climate change as well as on precipitation patterns, as aerosols work in a manner opposite to greenhouse gases (greenhouse gases trap heat escaping from the Earth’s surface – ‘global warming’ – while aerosols block heat from reaching the surface where it is absorbed – ‘global cooling’). This new discovery involving iodine vapours represents a major breakthrough in the prediction of climate change, as no current prediction model takes this fact into account." -- source Irish Scientist Journal

There is far too little scientific skepticism being applied to this debate. far too little. Once a scientific issue becomes popular with the financiers (government) then most scientists will sell their soul and the truth to keep the funding flowing.

This is another case of popular pseudo-science winning out over real scientific skepticism.

Modern global warming models cannot even predict last 5 years temperature curves based on historic records, not without arbitrary fudge factors.

Just think, algae is the greatest component in global O2/CO2 production/consumption and modern simulations that are used to predict global warming do not acount for this!

Global warming si a political stick to beat the people into submission and acceptance of an authoritarian global, socliat government to "save our lvies".

I hope it stays warm for a while. I like these mild winters.

Well, the National Association of Evangelicals aren't a part of this:

What these guys should do is STFU and stop generating all that hot air.

Rick Warren didn't seem to have any problem riding a jet burning
TONS of fossil fuels for his trip to Africa...
when he could have just wired millions of dollars in aid...
(OK, call me cynical, but when otherwise decent folks like Rick Warren
go soft in their reasoning, they need to be exposed)

BTW: It is a fact that warming increases algae blooms (more algae per square meter). It is a fact that algae is the largest producer of atmospheric oxygen and the largest absorber of Co2, and largest producer of anti-greenhouse aerosols.

Yet global warming scientists ignore algae because it defeats their doom and gloom predictions. Algae stabilizes atmospheric warming due to greenhouse gases (perhaps even due to other heating elements)

This is a news report from several years ago.

Ocean warming has triggered algae blooms linked to outbreaks of cholera in India, Bangladesh, and the Pacific coast of South America, where, in 1991, the disease infected more than 400,000 people.

There are limits to the buffering effect of algae of course, but this has not even been seriously studied because it defeats their source of funding from socialist governments seeking more control over industry through regulation.

Note: the new socialism, called the 3rd way by Tofler, replaces ownership of industry with regulation of industry. the result is the same.

a "hot greenhouse" only means that you can feel, it doesn't prove you can think.

If you look at the curves, it will be reaaaaaaallly cold winters within a few hundred years... unless man made C02 causes the environment to stabilize a bit.

...the leaders include the presidents of 39 evangelical colleges...

It will be interesting to see how many of those evangelical colleges
take a hit in their endowment funds when this gets major press.
(and yes, some will probably get increases)

The inclusion of Rick Warren's name is enough to keep me from supporting them and to doubt the credibility.

May I ask where you found that chart? I'd like to see if I can get a larger version.

Thanks.
