Evangelical leaders fight global warming

WASHINGTON, Feb. 8 (UPI) -- A group of 86 evangelical Christian leaders are reportedly supporting a major initiative to fight global warming.

Warning "millions of people could die in this century because of climate change," the leaders include the presidents of 39 evangelical colleges, aid groups and churches, such as the Salvation Army, and pastors of megachurches, including Rick Warren, author of the best seller "The Purpose-Driven Life," The New York Times reported Wednesday.

"For most of us, until recently this has not been treated as a pressing issue or major priority," the Christian leaders said in a statement to be officially released Wednesday. "Indeed, many of us have required considerable convincing before becoming persuaded that climate change is a real problem and that it ought to matter to us as Christians. But now we have seen and heard enough."

The religious leaders are urging enactment of federal laws curtailing carbon dioxide emissions through "cost-effective, market-based mechanisms."

The leaders told the Times their statement represents the start of an "Evangelical Climate Initiative" that will include television and radio ads, informational campaigns in churches, and educational events at Christian colleges.

And if it turns out that global warming is a phenomena that occurs naturally due to a combination of solar activity, earthly trajectory through space, cyclic transactions between various components within the atmosphere, and all are substantially greater than any human-caused contribution...what then?

The earth has shown to increase and decrease in temperature for billions of years on a cyclic basis. (See Ice Age)

What these guys should do is STFU and stop generating all that hot air.

Please plot the "human contribution to global temperature" on this chart.

Sorry to hear that about the Salvation Army. I used to contribute as generously as I could. That's finished. No support to anyone who follows the global warming cult.

Maybe they should stick to something they are supposed to know.

"cost-effective, market-based mechanisms" means rewarding companies that emit less carbon monoxide. As opposed to "mechanisms" proposed by Leftists that put liens and higher taxes on non-compliant companies.
If companies want tax breaks to lessen their emissions, so be it.

What is delusional about global warming? Are you saying that the greenhouse effect isn't real and human CO2 emission does not contribute to it? I guess oil PR firms' "swallow everything we say" is the real truth, while scientific research is just hogwash.

Makes about as much sense as asking a movie "star" about an opinion about the war. Why would anyone consider these people "experts?"

To say that greenhouse effect caused by the human emission for CO2 is "global dumbing" is denial in your part. Just go to any greenhouse shops, far hotter inside that outside.

Now, you can say that it is "good" to have hot climate, because it is summer all around. That I understand and agree completely!
