"No offense, but ..."
I FIND all of your editorial cartoons deeply offensive, morally, religiously, philosophically, and spiritually. In fact, I don't like your editorials, either. And the editorializing in your news coverage is annoying as well.
In keeping with your cowardly policy not to offend anyone, kindly cease publication at once.
BOB FLAVELL Duxbury
"Let readers judge the cartoons"
THE EDITORIAL ("Forms of intolerance," Feb. 4) explaining why you decided not to reproduce editorial cartoons depicting Mohammed was off the mark. In a bit of editorial gymnastics, it argued that newspapers, in the name of tolerance, ought to refrain from publishing such offensive stuff.
That reasoning may hold true for material submitted to the Globe. But these cartoons are now the focus of a legitimate news story, one that raises many troubling and significant issues and includes reports of demonstrations around the Muslim world and mob violence directed at embassies and Europeans.
Your readers deserve to be able to judge for themselves the offensive nature of these cartoons and see what is at the heart of this story.
At a time when many people turn away from newspapers to the Internet for their news, the Globe provided another reason for them to do that and failed to stand up for journalistic freedom.

What did you expect from another fine member of the LIBERAL MSM establishment? Strength? Credibility? Fight for the balanced viewpoint?
Absurd, I know.
Hmmm. Fair's fair, so of course they won't print cartoons that conservatives object to
Yup! Though to be honest at least the Globe has the great Jeff Jacoby writing columns and they do carry two right-leaning comic strips, Mallard Fillmore and Prickly City. But mostly it's... well, the N.Y. Times Jr.
Seriously, I remember back in the late fifties when my father changed from the Boston Herald (the real Herald) to the Globe because the Herald had become too liberal and the Globe was more evenhanded.
Time marches on.
The Globe is the very definition of Appeasement Policy. Cowards.
Neither Fox News, the Washington Times, nor the Wall Street Journal, nor the NY Post nor any other more conservative oriented media outlet is exactly falling all over themselves to publish the cartoons either.
Much to my great disappointment.
Perhaps the greatest Letter to the Editor of all time.

Thats why I only buy the NY Sun. They had the courage to publish the cartoons.

speaking of which, the Globe has lost nearly 8 per cent of its readers in recent times. The rival Boston Herald, which leans
right, only lost half as many. Oh, and the Globe recently disclosed credit card info from many of their subscribers...
some of whom have since been ripped off.
oopsie. More cancelled subscriptions.

Good one, Mr. Flavell. They may not heed the writer's call but time will soon force the inevitable end result.
But the Boring Broadsheet will publish XXX photos LIBELOUSLY accusing American servicemen of raping Iraqi women

Yeah I worked at ATEX.
It's amazing to me that only the uber-liberal Philadelphia Inquirer has had the stones to publish even one of the cartoons. Its uber-liberal columnist, Trudy Rubin, has written two excellent columns about the whole flap too, and the Inquirer ran a large front-page story yesterday exposing the whole setup by the Danish imam. I normally can't stand this paper, but it deserves a Pulitzer Prize for its coverage of this issue.
Great tag.
Thanks :)
Really? Fox news hasn't shown the cartoons? I would have thought at least one of the opinion shows would do it.
