British embassy attacked in Iran capital Wed. 08 Feb 2006

Tehran, Iran, Feb. 08 – Hard-line radical Islamists attacked the British embassy in Tehran on Wednesday, smashing several of its windows, a day after British Prime Minister Tony Blair warned Iran not to make the “mistake” of thinking that the international community would allow it to develop nuclear weapons.

The demonstrators who were affiliated to the Revolutionary Guards threw stones and sticks at the embassy while chanting, “Death to Britain”.

The International Atomic Energy Agency’s board of governors adopted on Saturday a resolution sponsored by London, along with Paris and Berlin, reporting Iran to the United Nations Security Council for breaches of its international obligations regarding its suspected nuclear weapons program.

Thanks to Jimmy Carter. Got to give credit where credit is due. ;)

Yep. In fact, he shares some of the credit for all the crap that's going down in Iran today. This is the second time we've been on the brink of war with Iran. The first time was alleviated by Ronald Reagan being sworn in. Those crazy mullahs were smart enough (back then, anyway) to know they didn't want to deal with RR.

Thanks, Jimbo, for "Iran Part II." Your legacy lives on.

It's becoming increasingly clear that the solution to this situation is going to be a prolonged carpet bombing campaign across the entire country of Iran.

There has been an unusually high rate of air traffic over Baghdad lately. Warplanes screaming over back and forth and more helicopters than usual. A lot of it late at night. I haven't heard this much air traffic since just before the Battle of Fallujah in late '04.

I can't help but wonder if they're doing exercises for a campaign to be conducted next door...

We need to do it and do it right. Doesn't matter what the Arab world thinks. They will never be happy. Keep your powder dry. It is going to hit the fan and there will be backlash here.

For Jimmy to lambaste President Bush (at a funeral for cryin' out loud) when HE IS PERSONALLY RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS DAY, is the zenith of hypocricy.

Piss be upon Jimmy.

Zur Seit’ ihm Ate, heiß der Höll’ entstiegen,
In diesen Gränzen mit des Herschers Ton

Von Menschenaas, das um Bestattung ächz’t,...

I read an article this morning about a giant hole Iran has dug in the ground that seems to resemble the plans for an underground Nuke test. Has anyone seen a thread on this subject?

Revolutionary Guards = President of Iran's personal thugs. He was a member of that organization for many years.

And I think it´s quite hard to understand the text, isn´t it? Many teenagers here probably don´t understand some words, too.

Indeed, most people today have trouble reading Shakespeare in English, as many of the words are obsolete, obscure, or have shifted meanings. A good glossary is usually provided in the better editions. Even 40 years ago, when I was a youth, knowledge of 16th-17th century English was much more widespread because people still read the 1611 Authorized Version of the Bible (known as King James, as it was he who commissioned the translation) -- which had a place in English-speaking countries similar to the Luther Bibel in Protestant Germany.

I´ve never read Skakespeare in English, we had to read Orwell in higher classes. Later, two years ago, I read some novels from good ole Billy in German (King Lear, MacBeth and the famous Hamlet).

Apropos Luther Bible: do you know that it´s his fault that most Germans start praying not with "Our Father" but with "Father our" (Vater unser). It´s an mistake made by the translation from Latin. In Latin, it´s "Pater noster", meaning "our father". Strange, or better: idotic that most perishes still pray the wrong version. :)

When I was in high school and college some 40+ years ago, everyone (even engineering students in college) read some Shakespeare plays (usually 2-3 in high school and 2 as a freshman in college) and probably saw at least two stage productions while in school. Liberal arts students, and English majors particularly, were likely to have taken courses in which anywhere from a dozen to all of the plays were read.

I suspected the word order in the Vater Unser had something to do with the translation from the Latin Vulgate of St. Jerome, but had never thought about it. It's been so long since I was reading mittelhochdeutsch (Parsifal, Der Arme Heinrich, Niebelungenlied, etc.)

Time for all the western powers to recall their ambassadors and close their embassies. You think the Iranians are bright enough to decipher the meaning?
