A Young Bush Appointee Resigns His Post at NASA
New York Times ^ | February 8, 2006 | Andrew C. Revkin

George C. Deutsch, the young presidential appointee at NASA who told public affairs workers to limit reporters' access to a top climate scientist and told a Web designer to add the word "theory" at every mention of the Big Bang, resigned yesterday, agency officials said.

Mr. Deutsch's resignation came on the same day that officials at Texas A&M University confirmed that he did not graduate from there, as his résumé on file at the agency asserted.

perhaps you should read the rest of this thread before posting your ignorance for all to see?

My style of posting is this: I read and in Firefox I middle-click "Reply" for any possible replies, which opens a new tab behind. When I've read the whole thread, I go back and close those tabs where a reply is no longer appropriate (somebody else said it, new evidence came up, etc.), then reply to those left.

To your 235, I didn't say you were trying, only that Deutch was trying, and his intent is perfectly clear due to his later ID comments.

Looks to me like somebody from Rove's office or elsewhere in the WH contacted Deutsch after October 5, *asking* him to adhere to the Republican Party line.

Do you write scince fiction too or just political fiction?

Oh, I thought you said he was "pandering" to those of us trying to confuse the 2 terms - I am an ID proponent BTW.

I think it is important to point out that the original charge that Deutsch required 'theory' behind big bang as some way to push a right-wing, anti-science, fundy agenda doesn't hold water when you look at his press releases:

http://hurricanes.nasa.gov/press/index.html

Most of these were released by Deutsch and some even relate to evolution, yet don't tout any religious or anti science 'terms'..

This article actually directly refutes that Deutsch required 'theory' after 'big bang':

When I graduated from college, you had to pay a fee to get your records certified in order to graduate. You went through the entire process, including the graduation pomp and circumstance, getting the dipolma holder, etc. Later they sent you the "offical" dipolma if your records were in order. IMHO, he probably was one or two credits away from his degree, probably even thought he had the credits and at the time of application put that he had or would be graduating at a certain time. Remember, his last column is in August (still a student), and I think he started at NASA in October. NASA receives his transcripts from A&M, every thing checks out. Just as the fact that he wasn't a presidental appointee is a fact lost on some, so is the fact that government employees, no matter how well connected, go through some type of vetting process.

That plus the lefts attempt to be relevant. They continually shout nonstories. If there's no crisis they enter meltdown.

No. he's not. Check the link in post 206.

Doesn't look like that's a complete list, as it only covers high-level appointments.

If you don't purposely try to confuse the two definitions, then it doesn't apply to you.

But then MurrayMom's story became that the White House got to Deutsch sometime AFTER those press releases with their Jedi mind control anti-Big-Bang Program ; )

It's MORE proof than the NY Slimes gave that Deutsch WAS a Presidential appointee.

If you look at the list, they aren't all high level..at that, there are many PR and communication positions like Deutsch held.. If that isn't complete (it looks like around 500+) then I don't know how the administration had the time to conduct all the conspiracies they are accused of..

I believe their program ended in 02, however, existing students have until 2006 to complete requirements, so if he was a student at the time, he would have been allowed to complete in 03. Considering all the other questions, however, this is just filler informatin..

Does the Pres do low level appointments? The assertion is that Bush appointed him. And he doesn't appear on the list. But since he was apparently appointed it had to be a "Presidential" appointment even though it probably never came from Bush. Guilt by association you see.

Of course, they want it BOTH ways (or if neither work, they'll throw something else up against the wall to see if that sticks ; )

Maybe because that are the only appointments the president makes. Do you really think that the president appoints a public relations specialist to every department in the government. Deutsch applied for the job, probably used his contacts from his work in the 2004 re-election campaign as references. Is it possible that President Bush had an influence on his selection, yes it is. Does that mean he appointed him? NO.

Well, forget that. He's worked there for nearly 40 years. And he is obsessed with climate change. He is a 67 year old man who said he was going to vote for John Kerry among other things. I googled him and found a previous NYT article about him from January 30. It looks like he's declared war on the Administration.

There's presidential appointees, and then there's presidential appointees. For example, there's the almost 8,000-strong SES, all appointed under presidential authority without confirmation, although filling those positions is usually delegated to the department heads.
