Jimmy Carter may or may not have been the worst president of the 20th century history will have the final word on that but his disgraceful performance yesterday at Coretta Scott King's funeral marks him as the most shameless. Maybe of all time.
There is, after all, a time and place for everything but not for Carter.
In a reprehensible (albeit typical) display of tone-deafness, the former president used the funeral of Dr. Martin Luther King's widow to score cheap points against President Bush. (He wasn't alone in that regard, more of which in a bit.)
Carter warmed up by conjuring the outlandish conspiracy theories that still linger from Hurricane Katrina: "We only have to recall the color of the faces of those in Louisiana, Alabama and Mississippi who are most devastated by Katrina to know that there are not yet equal opportunities for all Americans."
Then he segued on to the Bush administration.
In what could only be taken as a direct attack on Bush's electronic surveillance of suspected terrorists a program Carter has repeatedly denounced as "illegal" the ex-prez said of Mrs. King and her slain husband, Martin Luther King, "they became the targets of secret government wiretapping and other surveillance."

Well, history doesn't have to say a damn thing.
Jimmah Cottah was the worst president, not only of the 20th century, but the 19th and the 18th century.
Cottah is an ignorant peanut farmer that did more damage to our country than any other misguided miscreant, to include Roosevelt and Hoover, could ever do.
History will depict Cottah as a comedic failure, with a sweater legacy and a thermostat mentality.
The man is a failure, period.
No one with any sense of what a failed POTUS is, under any circumstances, can deny that.
He's irrelevant, he's a boob and he will eventually fade out.
I will not be attending his funeral, either.
Mr. Stag-flation- Malaise-Jimmy hisself. Useless Strunz.
What a flamer.
A Dishonest man, who misrepresents the facts.
NICE!
I forgot this particular little gem.
Not the first time he's said it, or words to that effect.
Stupid ass actually accusing a damn hurricane of racism.
The man is a blithering idiot.
Your posting is an insult to scum--Carter is MUCH lower than scum.
"And you'd think that God would have been merciful enough to have broken the mold. Carter was awful."
Apparently not. I LIVED through the loooong gas lines, the 15-20% interest to buy a new home, new INCOME TAXES like you wouldn't believe!! And HA!!! the terrible attack of the "Killer Rabbit"!! Those 4 years of Jimmy Carter were a nightmare. Anyone who even SUSPECTS Hillary Clinton might be elected had better be verrrry careful...you just might get what you asked for. And believe me, it ain't pretty.
Simply put, the Rats now have a new verb in their lexicon: "to wellstone."
We all know what it means.
The Rats wellstoned Coretta Scott King.
Yes, I think of Mr. Peanut often when I recall the long gas lines at the gas stations.
A blind future's expert speaking to deaf investors. Jimmy Carter and the democrat party.
Someone once said that Bubba was not the worst president, just the worst person to BE president. Jimmah, otoh, bids fair to be really the worst president, even given the stiff competition.
Yes, what an awful time.
His disrespect for this country in general and the presidency in particular shows his own lack of character.
Yeah, and it's a good thing he got sent back down after 1980. He may get snippy about GWB, but he's not man enough to play in his league.
"True enough - though Carter couldn't quite bring himself to note that the wire-tapping was conducted under Presidents John Kennedy and Lyndon Johnson, and was originally ordered by Attorney General Robert Kennedy, all Democrats." NYPOST
And it was purely domestic.
"...nucular (it's the way HE says it)..."
Actually, he says "nookyuh" -- neither "nuclear" nor "nucular".
In any case, that was the most boorish, graceless perforance of any ex-President I've ever seen. And to have outdone Clinton in this regard is indeed an achievement.
The two Elmers --heroes of the modern democratic party -- Elmer Fudd and Elmer Gantry.
