VIDEO: BREAKING THE TABOO
Michelle Malkin ^ | 2/7/06 | Michelle Malkin

Well, it's done. I appeared tonight on Fox News Channel's Hannity and Colmes for an all-too-brief segment on the Muhammad Cartoons. Before I drove to the Washington, D.C., studio, I stopped by a Kinko's store, printed out the cartoons, and pasted them onto a piece of poster board. I then used my short time on the airwaves to do what no one wants to do on American TV:

I tried to show viewers all 12 cartoons to give viewers the full context of the Jyllands-Posten's decision to publish the artwork.

I agree. Actually the Crusades were a good thing really nothing to be ashamed of in reality. The main travesty that occured during the crusades occured against fellow Christians in the East in Constaninople. However on the whole the Crusades were justifyed. Again I am saying is History teaches us lessions. Perhaps if we examine history it will aid us in this crisis

What we learned to do was to live with each other's beliefs. Those reacting violently to the cartoons have not. Backing off and letting them have their way will not teach them to deal with people who don't believe as they do.

Voltaire, I think, once said something like: if you live in a country with 2 religions, they do what those people always do: kill each other. If you live in a country with 1 religion, you do what those countries always do: kill other believers outside their country. If you live in a country with 30 religions, you figure out how to get along.

We live in a world with hundreds of beliefs. Muslims need to learn how to deal with people who have different beliefs. The responsibility is on them, not us, to change. As we have pointed out, we do not live in the Middle Ages anymore, and their behavior is not longer to be tolerated.

From what I hear from some other freepers, he's actually a great guy to be around and fun to talk to. You just can't talk about politics or religion. Now as far as Sean the hothead goes..you CAN talk about such things. And agree heartily with each other. But, well, its still hothead Sean.

If this was Jesus, I'd not want all this parade of cartoons going on.

Seriously, now: if Christendom had been behaving like the Muslim world has for the last several decades, and particularly in the last few years, and somebody printed a cartoon with a critical depiction of Jesus, would you say that it was beyond the pale? Context has everything to do with it: at this point in history, Islam has a very great deal to answer for, while Christianity and Judaism do not. A cartoon is a very mild reproach, yet they respond with characteristic barbarism.

[I was just pointing out that in the Freep land critique of Islam it might be helpful to realize that Christians went through the same thing and perhaps we can all learn from that as we try to live with 1.2 billion muslims without blowing ourselves up.]

Understood. But the ones who need to learn how to behave are the ones who've decided that democracy and constitutional liberties are a passing fad and the only way to live is by following the religious mandate of the despots in charge at the point of a gun.

If this was Jesus, I'd not want all this parade of cartoons going on. Why is it okay for Malkin to do it?

Thousands of fanatics worldwide are rioting because of these cartoons, and they won't stop. The cartoons are newsworthy and should be shown everywhere. And perhaps if every news outlet shows them, the rioters will see the futility in rioting. As it stands now, newspapers are refusing to print them out of fear, though they claim it is out of respect for muslims.

Of the whole clutch of cartoons published, one was a sort of self-portrait of an artist drawing a non-satirical picture of Mohammed, shedding sweat and glancing nervously over his shoulder to see if someone was getting ready to behead him. Neatly encapsulated the point of the whole exercise.

That is cool. Its a real fascinating history. An Orthodox convert got me interested in the subject. I realized the stuff that happened during the Protestant reformation but didnt realize the controversy hasd such a long history in the Church. I often wonder if the Eastern Othodox huge devotion to icons is not only based on that but but having to live in close quarters with muslims

cyborg writes:
Maybe you take pleasure in demoralising people but I don't.

Your point is well-taken.

But if we want to win the war with Islam for the continuance of Western civilization - I repeat, WIN it - I daresay we are going to have to "demoralize" 1.25 _billion_ people. And perhaps do _more_ than just demoralize them, indeed.

I see nothing wrong - and much that is RIGHT - about displaying those cartoons as widely as possible. The cult and culture that those cartoons mock is indeed an inferior one, and those who are under Islam's spell must be made to realize exactly that.

Oh I agree I am strong supporter of Europe standing up now. I belive that certain political forces in ISLAM see this whole thing as sort of a probing manuver to see how the west will respond

If that is true, it doesn't sound like they are trying to figure out how to get along with the rest of us yet.
