Barcelona Zoo's albino gorilla dies
Published November 25, 2003
BARCELONA, SPAIN -- Snowflake, an extremely rare albino gorilla and the
most popular resident of Barcelona Zoo, died of skin cancer early
Monday morning, zoo officials said.
Zoo officials euthanized the gorilla after his health deteriorated in
recent days. He was thought to be between 38 and 40 years old. The
average life span in the wild is 25.
In his 37 years at the Barcelona Zoo, he fathered 22 offspring with
three different females. None is albino.
Not enough studies have been done to know how many albino gorillas
might live in the wild, but they are extremely rare, and Snowflake was
the only albino kept in captivity.
In September, officials announced his imminent death, and since then
Barcelona citizens had flocked to the zoo to say their goodbyes to the
often grouchy animal.

Hey, speaking of albino, our next door neighbor (at our new cottage home) has an albino squirrel living in their tree.
First one I've ever seen.

CGK -
You should love bragging on her. She is adorable. I love to see patriotic kids. C'mon folks - share more! Here are my bragging kid stories:
During the first GW Bush election I was very, very pregnant with my 3rd. I swore come Heck or High Water (or Labor) I would vote in person. Thankfully, the little guy held off.
In the election aftermath there was a Pro-America/Pro-Bush demonstration. Well, there we were, my husband, my daughter, me and our brand new baby. He was in his stroller with a big sign attached to the front: "BABIES FOR BUSH!" There was chanting, yelling, horns, bells, etc. and the little one slept through it all.
When I picked him up at daycare (home based) he was generally sitting with the grandfather in a big chair watching FoxNews and Bill O'Reilly. That was his favorite show for awhile - now it's Rachael Ray.
During the next election he was in pre-school. They held a mock-election by putting a box for each candidate (with their picture on it) and asked the kids to put their slip of paper in the box. The teachers were cracking up when I picked him up. It seems he was the only kid in the school who had a clue about what an election was. I walked through the door and got, "Bet you are voting for Bush". HUH? They said that my son took his piece of paper, marched directly to the Bush box and said, "I vote President Bush!", shoved the paper in and went back to his chair.

The SF Zoo has an albino kangaroo and they trained her from the beginning to come get sun screened before going outside.

Our boys are going to be working on their BSA rifle merit badges this summer. They're already great shooters.
Thanks to all who offered a Welcome Home to my darling hubby, just back from Aghanistan! . Y'all rock.
