LITHONIA, Ga. - Shivering in near-freezing temperatures, thousands of people waited hours in line Tuesday for one last chance to say goodbye to Coretta Scott King before her funeral.
"There's one word to describe going to go see Coretta historic. It's good to finally see her at peace," said Robert Jackson, a 34-year-old financial consultant from Atlanta whose 10-year-old daughter, Ebony, persuaded him to take her to the visitation.
The lines had already started forming by 3 a.m. By the time the doors opened at 6:30 a.m., people toward the end were warned that if they stayed in line they likely wouldn't get into the funeral because of long lines that were already forming there.
An estimated 10,000 people, including four U.S. presidents, were expected to attend the midday funeral at New Birth Missionary Baptist Church, where King's daughter Bernice is a minister.
Short and well-written. AND well delivered.
He was good; short and to the point! Very compassionate.
And he got a nice reception.
Don't be surprised by a warm introduction from Bishop Long. He is a genuine man of God and a confidant of Pres. Bush.
For accuracy, let's say there were two presidents and two horses' asses there.
It's no big deal. Many military folks still are called General, Admirals etc after they retired. They never say former. That is stupid anyway. We only had 43 so they all deserve the honor of President, even President Clinton as much as he doesn't deserve it. You respect the office and not the person.
Rev. Schuler is on the dais.
The nuts heads are exploding..

I was taught that you always refer to presidents as "President Clinton" or "President Carter" regardless of the former status.
Rush said that 10,000 is the number of seating in this church (not counting overflow).
Did he really get a standing O. I didn't see it.
Rush said he did..
Lucky her. She should enjoy the time off. It probably makes sense with security and all, not have to worry about buses, parent driving to school etc.
If we're taking bets on how long Clinton speaks, put me down for 20 minutes.
See post 169 for better guidance.
Rush said the whole place just erupted into loud applause for President Bush after a stirring introduction by Bishop Eddie Long.

who is speaking now?
I am not finding the Mayor of Atlanta a very appealing speaker.
I believe everything in the state of Alabama was shut down the day of Bear Bryant's funeral. But I could be wrong.
