4 U.S. Presidents Expected at King Funeral (Live Thread)

LITHONIA, Ga. - Shivering in near-freezing temperatures, thousands of people waited hours in line Tuesday for one last chance to say goodbye to Coretta Scott King before her funeral.

"There's one word to describe going to go see Coretta — historic. It's good to finally see her at peace," said Robert Jackson, a 34-year-old financial consultant from Atlanta whose 10-year-old daughter, Ebony, persuaded him to take her to the visitation.

The lines had already started forming by 3 a.m. By the time the doors opened at 6:30 a.m., people toward the end were warned that if they stayed in line they likely wouldn't get into the funeral because of long lines that were already forming there.

An estimated 10,000 people, including four U.S. presidents, were expected to attend the midday funeral at New Birth Missionary Baptist Church, where King's daughter Bernice is a minister.

Hillary was showing her typical sour face when President Bush went up to speak. I get the feeling a couple in the choir are not paying attention to the President.... or maybe they just have a.d.d. The 2 with glasses over President Bush's shoulder.

Here in the Atlanta area the local media have gone wall-to-wall.

We have two monitors on full-time where I work, one on CNN and one on Fox.

When President Reagan passed, certain of my coworkers were bitching about the extensive coverage.

Since King passed however they have been sitting reverently, absorbing every second of the coverage (and doing little else, I may add).

BTW-They also change the monitor from FOX to CNN all the time, complaining that FOX is racist.

Company policy is that both stations be monitored for breaking news that may affect business, but nobody dares challenge these people when they change the channel.

It's no surprise though. Georgia, especially Atlanta has one-way policies and politics. The PC Nazis rule this place.

I think she did a lot. She had a husband who died tragically while he was speaking about love and being civil to one another. The thing that she really did was went on with her life and pretty much stayed out of politics and raised four pretty descent children who have not gotten into any trouble. It seems pretty clear she did more than Nancy Reagan did and I am sure that you would expect all the present, past and future presidents to attend her funeral, right?
