McCain launches harsh broadside at Obama (McCain rips Obama a new one)

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Sen. John McCain unleashed an unusually biting and blunt broadside Monday against one of his Democratic colleagues, Sen. Barack Obama of Illinois, accusing the freshman senator of backtracking on a previous commitment to help develop a bipartisan proposal for lobbying and ethics reform.

"I'm embarrassed to admit that after all these years in politics, I failed to interpret your previous assurances as typical rhetorical gloss routinely used in politics to make self-interested partisan posturing appear more noble," the Arizona Republican said in a letter to Obama.

"Please be assured I won't make the same mistake again."

McCain also told Obama that "I understand how important the opportunity to lead your party's efforts to exploit this issue must seem to a freshman senator, and I hold no hard feelings over your earlier disingenuousness."

What is your source? Please read "Sailors to the end" by Gregory A. Freeman for the facts! McCain was sitting in his plane on the flight line waiting to take off when his plane was the first plane to be hit by the mis-fired rocket that started the whole Forestal disaster. McCain was lucky to survive. All that before being captured. Were you there? Unless you there, STFU.

Obama is African-American and press favorite. I think McCain really wanted him on the bill.

We can revel in this war of words all we want - but I'm intrinsically suspicious of so-called "bipartisan" efforts. I give Obama points for not buying into it, and I don't know why the Republicans don't just do likewise and craft their own solution. What good is having the House, Senate and Presidency if you don't ever try to get anything done without having to "ask permission" from the minority?

Obama would be toast in any national election. All the opposing candidate would have to do is slip up a couple of times during a debate and call him Osama.

He's just torqued off that he had to drop the price of his hacienda which is on the market. Obama was the next face he saw that he didn't like, IMHO. But it will be fun to see Obama handle this live grenade.

If that were the case, how did he get elected to the Senate over a rock ribbed conservative like Allan Keys and with 72% of the popular vote?

Keys carpet-bagged his way into the election and was viewed as an opportunist looking for an easy victory. Yes, he is conservative but in addition to the carpet-bagging problem, he had no voting base in Illinois and I'm sure his fire-brand conservativism turned alot of fence-sitters off. JMHO.

hey, can you tell me what your talking about "selling his country out in only 2 days"

I can't stand the guy at all and if I had to compare him to anyone, it would be Kerry. They both project a superior air; they are the true diplomats and gentleman of the Senate. I feel confident McCain has no chance of securing the GOP nomination.

Keys is a joke who would have lost a one-man race against himself.

I said from the day Obama was elected he would be Hillary running mate. Watch and see if this is not true.

If one already IS a derriere, how is it possible to rip another one on it?

Yes. It will be interesting to see where this one goes, IMHO...

No I wasn't, were you? The way I heard it told was that as soon as he got out of the plane he took off, not trying to help put out the fire. Then they got him out of his room at the other end of the ship and got him off the ship on a helicopter. We will probably never know for sure though because just like another self-proclamed navy hero with the same first name he will not release his navy records.

"The way I heard it told "

Just a little thin. Could we get at least a little more info on the source? Also, the guy was fully trained to take off and land jets on a carrier. I would think there would be some type of standing order for pilots not to get involved in fire fighting if they can avoid it; too much of an investment in their pilot training and too little investment in damage control training. Any ex-carrier guys know the rules?

I wish I could remember the source. It has been several years ago, in fact I am not sure what made me remember this incident. As for a standing navy order for pilots not getting involved in fighting fires on-board a ship I do not know (I doubt it though). I was in the AF. In the AF if there was ever an emergency everyone came to help, regardless of your rank or AFSC.

Thank your husband for his dedication to his country.

McCain gave ship locations in exchange for medical attention for his injuries during the shootdown of his plane.

My husband is an ex-Navy flier. He said that you have stated the rules perfectly.

This is not our issue with McCain.
