McCain launches harsh broadside at Obama (McCain rips Obama a new one)

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Sen. John McCain unleashed an unusually biting and blunt broadside Monday against one of his Democratic colleagues, Sen. Barack Obama of Illinois, accusing the freshman senator of backtracking on a previous commitment to help develop a bipartisan proposal for lobbying and ethics reform.

"I'm embarrassed to admit that after all these years in politics, I failed to interpret your previous assurances as typical rhetorical gloss routinely used in politics to make self-interested partisan posturing appear more noble," the Arizona Republican said in a letter to Obama.

"Please be assured I won't make the same mistake again."

McCain also told Obama that "I understand how important the opportunity to lead your party's efforts to exploit this issue must seem to a freshman senator, and I hold no hard feelings over your earlier disingenuousness."

The thing is he was never tortured, he was threatened with it. He spilled his guts to save his butt. Just like when he refused to help fight a fire on his ship. He hid in his cabin until the danger was over.

McCain will NOT get my support until he disavows Campaign Finance Reform.

McCain can not be trusted. I don't know how many times this has to be said. He will sell out the pro-lifers, the pro-guns, the pro-markets, the libertarians, the small governments, the nationalists, and so on. He will sell everybody OUT. His ego is the size of a large meteor.

If he became President, 90 % of the people on the board will detest him within 6 months. There is absolutely no doubt of that in my mind, whatsoever.

"Well, I am surprised and impressed ... good to see some 'spunk' in McCain! No doubt, trying to shake that RINO label of his. Go, boy, go!"

HA McCain needed some press exposure, 'you know' some of that free media advertising. Now were he really really serious about taking Obama on he would have used that word "SOROS"!!!!!!

I am surprised and impressed, as well. He is my State Senator...

How can you say he was never tortured? Were you there? The fact that he can't raise his arms above shoulder level would suggest pretty serious torture. We would be better served to not question his service to this country and instead focus on what he's done or not done as a Republican senator while in Washington.

Since your response sounds like you are from Arizona, I have a question to ask. What ever happened to Cindy, McCain's wife? She was oh so evident when he ran for president. Then there was the drug problem. Where and what is Cindy doing now? She sure isn't politically visable.

That is total bs that McCain was not tortured while he was held as a POW!! McCain plain crashed, he like all the other pilots was paraded through the streets while terribly injured from the crash. Then sat for 5 FIVE freakin years in the Hanoi Hilton eating rice and suffering at the hands of the North Vietnamese. You might not like how he stood politically re: the Vietnam POW/MIA issues over the years but you have to give the man some credit!!

Good for McCain that he slapped down Obama, he needed it.

From 1999 on the subject of McCain, some food for thought:

Defending Senator McCains name and being wrong in the process.

Actually, mccain's average is much higher because of his younger years. In 2003 and 2004 Zell miller had a rating of 75 and a 96, an average of 85.5. THe last two years mccain had a rating of 72 and 75 which was 73.5. So yea, zell got much better ratings than mcqueeg did.

The only damage done to McCoward happened to him when he crashed his plane. The minute he was captured he let the cong know who he was and who his daddy was and how important daddy was. When I lived in AZ I met him several times and listened to way too many of his "How Great I Am" speeches. Anybody that has to brag about themselves that much has nothing to brag about.

That was a condition imposed to him by President Bush. If ridiculed or embarrassed by dims, don't don't just stand by and let it fly. Counter attack.

I guess this means no McCain/Obama ethics bill. Must have been McVain's dream bill.

You may use any means to bit down the demoRATS, I mean anything. The bustards have gotten away with too much stuff. It is time that someone responded.

The Republicans should have a RESPONSE team every time a demORAT miss-behaves.

I think folks are missing the point. McCain is angry at Obama for his failure to support a BIPARTISAN bill. McCain is working with Lieberman, Nelson and Feingold and wants even more Democrats to support his measure. This is a Gang of 14 proposal that has McCain's panties all in a bunch.

As I noted, I initially believed you shared that goal. But I understand how important the opportunity to lead your party’s effort to exploit this issue must seem to a freshman Senator, and I hold no hard feelings over your earlier disingenuousness. Again, I have been around long enough to appreciate that in politics the public interest isn’t always a priority for every one of us.

LOL - McCain really gave it to him. Rush was just playing a soundbite from someone on CNN who attacked Mccain for attacking Obama.
