Thanks for answering that; I've been listening to a lot of anecdotal information regarding what private insurers are doing as a result of the Medicare prescription plan.
The issue of private companies funding their employee pension funds is one that we're going to start hearing a lot more about as the baby boomers retire. My dad wasn't in a union but I know that they have underfunded for years their retiree plans for years.
Oh hell .. I've had endless arguments with folks defending the reasons why the President didn't veto many bills
Many were important bills that were needed .. but that doesn't excuse the nit wits in congress that slip in their stupid pork projects
There is a reason why they slip them into these important bills
Because they know they won't pass on their own merits
What the President needs is a line item veto passed
I know that Clinton was forced into signing that bill, and was pointing out to another freeper that he was correct that spending wasn't an issue when President Bush ran for office because spending was relatively under control.
Clinton defunded the military and it's taking a lot of money to get it back up to speed, not that conservatives oppose that, naturally.
I have no doubt the polls are not sampled appropriately and am not worried about that aspect of this discussion at all.
I have no idea what they will do, naturally, in SC. I can only tell you that it's been getting a large share of the retiree population and those folks on fixed incomes are concerned with spending. They are also concerned with national security. Where that will all play out, I don't know.
The only worry I have about that is they won't vote, if they start to perceive that the platform of limited government is gone from the Republican party. A lot of people vote their pocketbook, but what play 9/11 will continue to have in people's voting habits, I don't know.
Couldn't agree more! The Education Establishment and its enabler the NEA, has gotten itself fat with BILLIONS of dollars and absolute monopoly control over the public schools of this country. This has got to be broken apart. Look how powerful the California public employees have become - to the point of their pension fund telling corporations what they can do and who can sit on the board. If this is left unabated it will follow to all other states.
See you later I will be routing for your team, not certain I will be watching though we do have it live on Sky Sports.
I should have made my point more clear -- you and I haven't complained about spending ourselves and have actually defended the administration on this point more than once.
That we've had to defend it on various threads with freepers who aren't part of the unappeasables is in itself telling, I think, of the problem that exists. Although certainly we do see some of those unappeasables on the threads and treat them differently than we treat good conservatives who have some legitimate concerns.
I would LOVE to see the line item veto passed, but Congress will never do it for all the usual reasons. Wouldn't an executive order on this matter be just the ticket? That's clearly wishful thinking :-)
More in Congress will be calling for "Control of the Executive Branch". I thought they were coequal and I believe GWB, his AG, and past court cases are the basis for GWB relying on his CIC authority in the Constitution for his International Terrorists spying program. We shall see what the newer courts have to say about it, but I am not betting on Specter and any other Congresscritter on this issue.
You are welcome...benefits for elderly are going to be a huge issue 'cause most of us are about there!
Seriously, baby boomers are dealing with their parents, and a lot are only 20-25 yrs behind.
I don't think he can do that ... but it sure would be fun to watch a few heads explode if he could do it ... *L*
Heck, I can remember when it was OK to sing Christmas Carols!
#####
Those were the days, my friend...
Oh, My! Maybe you should e-mail Brit and ask him if the "ticker" person needs a dictionary!
I watch my TV with closed captioning a lot...so I can listen to c-span or talk radio...and I have decided that if a truly deaf person is relying on closed captioning to know what is really being said, he/she is probably VERY confused!
There are a LOT of mistakes...and NOT just spelling, but wrong words that put whole different meanings to a sentence...yikes!

Same here :-)
So we've been watching this pretty carefully and have calculated what it would cost us if my husband (who is quitea bit older than I am) had his insurance dropped. It would be astronomical. So we're hoping Congress fixes the problem, but as I said, whenever they fix stuff, it's usually worse. LOL
Whenever the MSM refers to 'what the blogs are 'sayin'... they mean DailyKos.
Whenever they refer to right-wing hate-speech... they mean us & Rush Limbaugh.

Definitely a contender for Quote of the Day!
LOL. I never thought of that.
Very well said and I agree 100%. The bottom line, I believe, is that too many folks in this country do not believe we are in the WOT. They are fat dumb and happy and want all this negative stuff about islamofacists to just go away. At least that is the DemonRATs position - they want to just treat it like Toon did - a police action for some bad criminals. Take them to court. I want them killed, no court no trial.
Does this mean I have to give up my bushbot status because I don't agree with you??
It seems the Heritage Foundation has heard from conservatives around the nation who are upset with spending. Imagine that. One of dozens of links that could be provided:
