The Talk Shows
Sunday, February 5th, 2006
Guests to be interviewed today on major television talk shows:
FOX NEWS SUNDAY (Fox Network): Gen. Michael Hayden, the principal deputy director of national intelligence; House Majority Leader John Boehner, R-Ohio.
MEET THE PRESS (NBC): Boehner; Sen. Arlen Specter, R-Pa.
FACE THE NATION (CBS): Sens. Patrick Leahy, D-Vt., and Jeff Sessions, R-Ala.
THIS WEEK (ABC): Gen. Michael Hayden; Republican National Committee Chairman Ken Mehlman.
LATE EDITION (CNN) : Sen. Barbara Boxer, D-Calif.; Rep. Duncan Hunter, R-Calif.; Afghan President Hamid Karzai; former interim Iraqi Prime Minister Iyad Allawi; Prince Turki Al-Faisal, Saudi ambassador to the United States; Pittsburgh Mayor Bob O'Connor; Seattle Mayor Greg Nickels.
We shall see if the Republicans can make this a winning electoral strategy. Personally I am inclined to think that if the Republicans aren't successful in making the leading issues national security, economy (and the tax cuts that fuel it), judicial nominees and the like they will be hurt. It will be very difficult for them to depend on fiscal conservatism while funding a war that has grown increasingly unpopular.
Did your parents have a private prescription plan before? And does your small company provide retiree prescription coverage? I'm asking out of curiousity.
My parents live in a golf club community which because it is located far away from schools is primarily a retirement community. The main talk on the golf course is another retiree getting a letter from their private insurer saying their prescription coverage has been dropped.
I agree
I agree with the issues you've listed. Those are positives. The party needs to get rid of the negatives and since we can't/won't get rid of the Iraq matter, the only other negative going now is the spending.
We live in a retiree area in SC - it's the largest growing city in South Carolina and it's growing mostly due to baby boomers retiring and since the elderly are a huge voting block and SC has been solidly Republican, if this issue isn't dealt with, it will hurt the Republicans in the presidential primary.
IT may matter to the collection of Freepers who hyperventilate about it daily, it may matter to the faction of Fiscal Conservative activist in the Republican base, it does NOT register ANYWHERE as a vote changing issue. Remember, YOU represent about 30% of the people. Democrats, who are convinced we do NOT spend nearly enough represent another 30% and about 40% fall in between. You can SAY all you want that "people are really upset about spending" there is NO data to back that claim up. Simply screaming that over and over and over will not change that reality. What Conservatives NEED to do is figure out HOW do we educate the public why Fed Spending is a big deal and why we need to do something about reigning it in. The problems Conservative always have in politics is they just blindly assume EVERYONE thinks like them. Then they wonder why things like the various 1990s Budget Debates turned around and bite them so hard on the butt when Clinton and the Dems started screaming "Republicans want to starve your kids". MOST people do not agree with us. We have to EDUCATE them why it matters. HERE is some data for you to think about. Look at the individual Congressional Approval ratings. Only 16 out of 100 Senators have approval ratings under 50%! If "Everyone" is so concerned about spending, why do they all LOVE the guy bringing home the mountains of pork?
You know what .. I am sick of arguing why this program is needed
If some people are to bleeping stupid to realize that we are in a war for our lives
Then fine .. If Congress hates it sooooooo much .. then get rid of it all together
And when we are attacked again .. I will point the finger directly at them!!!
The bracket is $2,501 to $3,600.
I agreed with Mo1's assertion that conservatives are concerned about spending. Period.
All one need to is read articles and talk to people to understand that. I did not attack you. I wrote a post to Mo1 agreeing with her. You attacked me.

Nice article about this morning's comments.
I'm sorry Peach but I am not really intrested in wasting my time trying to pry open a welded shut mind
We are a special case...very small family business. We do not provide retiree health programs..our only retirement is a matched 401K plan.
They are covered by our health insurance, but the Medicare comes into play and I am going on what my father told me. The prescription plan is pretty limited for them, and with normal 80's health problems, they have an enormous prescription bill annually.
I believe, as you said, the Prescription drug plan was more attractive (less expensive) than our drug plan.
Maybe you missed my post where I wrote a letter to the editor about this matter educating people. All you do is argue with people who don't agree with your point of view. Why don't you start posting data which proves your point of view instead of arguing with freepers?
Bullseye.
Ummm .. I don't have any pet issues
I'm not one of those "true" blues that I continue to have endless arguments with
I've been around politics long enough to know that sometimes you have to give some to get some ..
Though I may not like many things that happen .. I do realize how the game of politics is played
And I also realize that if the party continues to ignore many in the base .. the voters won't vote for a dem or sit out ... But there will be one hell of a shake up when the Primaries roll around in the future
Spoken like someone who can't prove his point.
I didn't know we had a pet issue either. LOL
Can't remember, in fact, the last time either of us even mentioned spending.
The reason that Clinton was not a huge spender is because the Pubbies took over the House in 1994, and he got a lot less than he wanted. He signed the welfare bill because he was forced into it by the Pubbies and Public opinion. clinton came into office as a new Democrat and within Months he was the same old Tax and spend democrat because the Dems were in Charge and that is their real platform. A lot of pubbies are upset with the spending,(I am little) and they are probably one of the reasons why GWB and GOP poll numbers are not a lot higher. There are base Pubbies that are furious about the border issues and they blame Bush/RNC. They are also upset because they perceived the President as not fighting back, and not veto'ing one bill. Most or a lot of this will change because the President and the GOP are addressing these problems. The media is already trying to get more Conservatives on their Programs and in the Print Media to stave off the flight to the New Media on the internet, but it will not work, it will help get FNC back on the straight and narrow. When it boils down to it, the GOP base and the Conservative Dems and Republicans will vote for the Defenders of America, not the haters. Most of the polls are to be ignored because they do not sample dems and Republicans equally with Independents pretty close to the same numbers. they are biased and they do not think that it will catch up to them because they have the News Shows and Newspapers to push their DNC talking points. This is changing and they are not doing much to hold off the coming revolution.
if any of you want to get on a live SB thread later, I started one: href="http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/news/1572301/posts?page=15
GO SEAHAWKS!!!
Meaning they will vote for Democrats or they just won't participate? Is this out of a sense of fiscal responsibility that protects social security?
