Prayer for When You Need to be Refreshed and Renewed

Lord, many of us are like gale-beaten ships, arriving at last at a calm and sheltered cove.

Our lines are frayed from incessant tension.

Our sails are battered by sudden gusts of unexpected hardships...

Our spars are broken where we were unable to withstand the force of temptations.

Our decks are soaked, having been awash with the tears of worry and doubt.

Refit us as we draw close to you in this quiet moment.

Restore us with renewed courage that we each may set sail again,
as stout ships able to head high into the wind and hold our course.

We thank you that we can set our hearts like sextants upon you
and navigate even perilous, uncharted seas with confidence
because you are our North Star: absolute, constant and dependable.

Some news (of sorts) for a slow day:

This is a scan of the actual hospital bill for bringing me into this world. Think it gives an idea of how much things have changed?



(My sister-in-law asked mom if the $2.75 anesthetic consisted of her getting hit over the head with a hammer. Of course, I doubt you could even get any hospital employee today to do that for a mere $2.75.) ;)

The Silence

The silence of the forest
evokes a calming of the soul
Standing neath a giant
I feel very small
There are things mightier than me
as nature constantly reminds me...
that I am, but a grain of sand
in the entire scheme.

It's good to know I'm not in charge
a terrible onus it be
my job is small you see
and it's enough for me.

I gather words from the sky
and lay them in a row
I hope people understand
I have no where else to go.
But to morph into the background
to write a poesy or two
then put it some shape or form
to lay it down for you.

It was another time
with not so much conflict
boiling about in the hearts of man.

A time of settling in after the WWII.
Our JI's came home, went to work, married,
raised a family, and rock and roll was born.

Speaking of WWII, my late husband was in "Company B 166th Engineers Batallion." I need to do some research on Patton's Army. Like most WWII vets, he didn't talk about it much. (I just made a scan of his dd214 and some other important papers.)

My step dad was in the Engineers Batallion, also. I can't remember all the details now.


He was a POW in Germany. Pete only talked about the War when he was blasted. Gone now many years. Hope he found some peace.

Oh, I dunno...we saw a few patients on the ward last week that I would have done that to...er, for.

Check out the handwriting on the bill...that is really lovely...neat, legible, and concise.

Interesting receipt.

As I recall the bill which I received for my daughter was exactly (Insurance covered it all) zero, because somebody fouled up and never charged us the $25.00 deductible. When the former 2LT was born in an Army hospital, we were charged $10.00 and that was for the meals for the mother only.

Thanks! I'm at the guest book now and still looking around. It's for the 150th. Of course, since I'm clueless as to how the battalions are numbered, it may take me awhile to figure stuff out.(Nice background on the page!)

That was the total hospital bill. (I don't think I have the bill for the doctor.)

They had Blue Cross/Blue Shield health insurance, but it's my understanding that that was submitted separately.

Mr. Rothchild's entry says he wasn't in the 150th, but in the 166th.

From what I've seen, many of the Engineer Combat Battalions supported each other during those latter days of '44, so you see a lot of crosstalk on the documentation.
