Turned on the radio, happened to catch the last segment of the John Batchelor show. He was interviewing Jeb Babbin....who many of us know and respect, and read his columns. I was absolutely stunned by what Babbin just said...hadn't seen/heard it anywheres..and thought it merits reposting for your benefit....

The administration is not sure how to proceed. Babbin doesn't think they have the guts to indict a US senator. He said it would cause a battle royal on the Hill, if not a constitutional crisis.
If they don't now, on this, they might as well forget about ever trying to any thing else.
They gave all the Clinton corruption a pass.
Jay Rockerfeller was also the Senator who made a fast trip to Syria and the ME not long before the invasion of Iraq, too.

Thanks...sounds like Babbin is being used, willingly, to ratchet up the pressure on Rockefeller, and the Dems, in advance of the hearing..

Exactly, and it wouldn't surprise me at all. This sounds like it could have legs.

The prospect of Durbin, Rockefeller and Wyden refusing to take a polygraph makes smile REAL BIG.

A lie detector can find out if they put their staff up to it, if so they are guilty also. Not to be a skunk at the party, but lie detector results are not admissable in court, which means there is reasonable doubt as to their efficacy.
This is high stakes poker, if, indeed, Babin's story has any validity. The administration has to have Rockefeller dead to rights to fire this silver bullet. Otherwise, an unverifiable accusation against a sitting Senator of the opposite party could swing the momentum that is now in Bush's favor on NSA surveillance completely against him.
Besides, if the Judith Miller precedent holds, Rockefeller knows--if, indeed, he is the leaker--that he is completely at the mercy of James Rosen and Rosen's desire to spend time in the hoosegow in defense of him.

Sorry,my favorite CYA line of all time.
Of course Rockefeeler will never be convicted of anything. You don't become a US Senator without learning how to cover your tracks.
Doesn't mean we can't try...

Nope. This administration couldn't even punish Sandy Burger, they're not going to take on a senator.
To: sinkspur
Ok, skunk,...lol... the point is to make him refuse to take the polygraph. Let him dance and deny.
