WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Washington on Friday condemned caricatures in European newspapers of Islam's Prophet Mohammad, siding with Muslims who are outraged that the publications put press freedom over respect for religion.
"These cartoons are indeed offensive to the belief of Muslims," State Department spokesman Kurtis Cooper said in answer to a question.
"We all fully recognize and respect freedom of the press and expression but it must be coupled with press responsibility. Inciting religious or ethnic hatreds in this manner is not acceptable."

The State Departments of virtually every Administration I can think of are filled with a bunch of make-nice A**holes who will NEVER come to your aid or defend you if, God forbid, you should EVER run afoul of "The Law" in some 3rd world hell-hole. The State Department represents the dirty, dark side of American Politics. They are rapidly becoming Public Enemy Numero Uno, along with the ACLU and CAIR. I don't know why this is, and wish someone would enlighten me as to why the State Department never seems to change, why it is always so willingly under the thumb of every disreputable tinhorn dictator it is forced to deal with. Does anyone know of a State Dept. that actually talked the talk and walked the walk when it came to defending Americans?
I don't think Theo Van Gogh used any likeness of Mohammed in his short film on Islam, but it still got him a knife straight through the heart. These people DO NOT BELONG IN THE 21ST CENTURY, and hence DO NOT BELONG ON PLANET EARTH AS IT NOW EXISTS. One never knows from one moment to the next what will arouse their murderous ire. The "image of Mohammed" thing is just a ruse===they would want to kill us even if we converted to Islam, because we weren't "their kind of Muslim".
I like the action the State dept took, leave europe twisting in the wind for once. Why should we support their press on anything ??
This is all just a test, to see how ready the West is for further indoctrination. As we can see by the governments' response, we're ready to be introduced to Islam. The final goal of course is a completely Islamic world, living in the stone age.
