McCain Gains on the Right
New York Post ^ | 2/3/06 | DEBORAH ORIN

February 3, 2006 -- REPUBLICAN conservatives are really warming up to Sen. John McCain as they look ahead to 2008 — and one reason is they are starting to see him as the best person to beat Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton.

Conservatives loved the poll that showed McCain would trounce Clinton by 52 to 36 percent in a White House. It came along just as they were reminding themselves that McCain really is a true-blue conservative.

......

And yet, it's fascinating how McCain appeals to Democrats, even pro-choice women, despite his solid right-to-life voting record and the fact that he'd surely appoint conservatives to the court if he were president.

"It's the 'special' factor — there's just something special that makes him seem above politics and makes many pro-choice women think he must be pro-choice because they like him," said Republican pollster Kellyanne Conway

if it was him or a Demoncrat getting into the WH. Sorry - but any Demoncrat would be worse than McCain.

If that were the case it would not matter who you xoted for, either way you would be voting for a democrat. Even if he puts an R behind his name he is still a democrat at heart. I could also dye a skunk blue, but it would still stink just like a skunk.

The conservatives should vote for McCain and then spend some time grooming an absolute powerhouse candidate.

Only an absolute powerhouse will get elected.

To nominate an unknown would be disaster.

Before most conservatives warm up in their feelings for McCain, would not a normal first step be for McCain to avoid groin kicking them regarding at least half of the issues?

Good morning..

McCain will NEVER get the nomination..for two reasons

1. Health...melanoma is the most dangerous form of cancer..it would become a huge issue

2. His wife..she makes Teresa H-K look sane.. She's completely vanished from the public eye these last few years..butonce the story comes out..no way the voters want her as first lady..

Okay, if nobody else is going to mention the painfully obvious, I'll do it: McCain's health will likely not see him through until '08. Did anyone see him at the SOTU address? He looked as bloated as Uncle Teddy, and what the hell has happened to his face. Nope, not wishful thinking, I just think the man looks very ill.

Mrs. George Allen at Walter Reed Army Hospital.

What kind of First Lady would she make?

I'm no fan of McCain, but he does have a lifetime ACU rating of 83. The American Conservative Union doesn't rate presidents, but I'm guessing this would probably be higher than George W. Bush's rating for his five years in the White House.

One thing for McCain..I actually think his aborted 2000 run was a good thing..It toughened W for the national campaign, and what was to come in Florida..my one worry about W early on was that he had never been a national figure..coudl he handle the campaign...

"McCain is one of the few "Republicans" I wouldn't vote for under any circumstance. Period."

Not even if he promised to only take one term?
