February 3, 2006 -- REPUBLICAN conservatives are really warming up to Sen. John McCain as they look ahead to 2008 and one reason is they are starting to see him as the best person to beat Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton.
Conservatives loved the poll that showed McCain would trounce Clinton by 52 to 36 percent in a White House. It came along just as they were reminding themselves that McCain really is a true-blue conservative.
......
And yet, it's fascinating how McCain appeals to Democrats, even pro-choice women, despite his solid right-to-life voting record and the fact that he'd surely appoint conservatives to the court if he were president.
"It's the 'special' factor there's just something special that makes him seem above politics and makes many pro-choice women think he must be pro-choice because they like him," said Republican pollster Kellyanne Conway

I agree with you. Knock him out before he gets there... If he does, however, we need to be 100% behind him.
I was referring to Harriet Meirs...
I want a mountain with three Bush faces carved into it.
I heard Byron York say the same thing a couple of weeks ago. I believe he was refering to "inside-the-beltway Republicans". barf
WRONG.. McLaim would ruin the country AND his party..
A republican Jimmah Carter.. causeing an exodus from the party to be (further) taken over by RINOS..
Mclaim is a Trojan Elephant with Donkeys hiding inside of it..
Bush's greatest failing has been to not groom a powerhouse VP for 2008. That's reality.
It's a long way to 2008, but "Bush burnout" may weigh heavily with the voters. Jeb Bush has also said he does not intend to run in 2008. Condi Rice has not expressed any interest in the office, although she could change her mind. Even assuming she is solidly conservative on domestic issues, the last time this country elected an unmarried person as President was in 1856, when James Buchanan won. That leaves George Allen. My one question is whether the voters outside the South would want a third consecutive Southern governor (in Allen's case, former governor) as President.
For Mc Cain to get my vote he will have to:
1. Dissolve the gang of 14
2. Admit that CFR is unconstitutional and actively work to reverse it.
3. Become a leading supporter of strong border security.
4. Promote the importance of data mining contacts with Al Qaeda
5. Promote the importance of reasonable terrorist interrogation tactics
6. Fully disclose his role in the Keating 5 scandal.
7. Call Imus a mush-minded liberal moron on air
Got that, NY Post?
I wont go there...I will not give the McCainestas the satisfaction...
He is UNACCEPTABLE.
I don't get why Conservatives hate McCain so much. Is it just because of McCain-Feingold and the fact that he ran against Bush in 2000? It should be noted that he realized Pat Robertson was crazy years before he started the "God punished everybody I disagree with" schtick. I'm not saying McCain is the best Republican, but he is hardly a RINO.
Better McCain than Giuliani. At least McCain has a conservative voting record, and lacks Giussolini's corrupt Noo Yawk friends.
[ if it was him or a Demoncrat getting into the WH. Sorry - but any Demoncrat would be worse than McCain. ]
That is not what I said, that is what Bruce S said. I said It would not matter who you voted for if it was between him and a democrat, we would get a democrat either way.
The reason that McCain's numbers are so good is because he has never been attacked by the left. If he got into a general election with Hillary, they would be coming at him non-stop.
No one expected him to do so well in 2000 and the Dems were propping him up as being to the left of Bush and to try and make Bush stumble in the primary.
I'm not saying McCain is the best Republican, but he is hardly a RINO.
I agree, he is not a RINO, he is a full fledge democrat.
And I didn't say you said it..
You quoted me quoting another with the wrong quote..
You can quote me..
< Anyone who stays home on Election day 2008 deserves everything that Hillary! will do to this country and have no right to say a word about it.
I will do everything in my power to make sure McCain does not get the nomination, but if he does I will pull the lever for no toher reason than to vote against that bitch. And ANYONE who doesn't vote to make sure HILLARY does not get elected is a friggin MORON. End of story. >
Whoa! Hold your water.
Yes, I should have added a caveat that I really would vote. I was perhaps being a bit rash, but trying to make a point. I haven't missed an election since I was 21. (21 was the voting age when I could first vote.)I've had to hold my breath when I've pulled the lever before, so I can do it.
I do, however, think that with a McCain/Hillary election, McCain still wins (despite the possibility of conservatives staying home)because the Dems will even vote for him. She doesn't have the chance of a snowball in He11.
Do not know if this is true, but if it is, the Right must be very sick. To even consider McCain is beyond belief. The man is not qualified to be President. Guess it fits the political arena, politics and power first, and country second. Very sad.
