He is no pro lifer and no defender of marriage between a man and woman either.

Find me anything in his voting record in the house or senate, or any speech or op-ed where he said or supported anything that wasn't pro-life on abortion or showed any weakness on marriage is between only a man and a woman.

His voting record, on abortion and marriage is 2nd to NO ONE in the senate.

I do not like McCain, or some of whom he associates with, but his record on abortion is steller, no one in the entire house or senate can claim to, on their record, have a better record then John McCain, nor when it comes to the issue of marriage.

I may not agree with some of the folks who he has backed, and some of them have issues in which they disagree with McCain, it does not change his own views, nor does it re-write history.

Social issues are the only area in which he hasn't sold out.

, because of the hatred conservatives have for him, anything he proposes, gets automatic opposition, which is sad, since he is trying to tack right for his presidential run....i.e. if he proposed tax cuts, half of the freepers would call for tax hikes, just because its McCain.

Wrong.

We'd favor the tax cuts and just state McCain was trying to repair his image somewhat with conservatives for his '08 run. Purely motivated by self interest. :-)

Actually, in seriousness, conservatives would simply ask what's the catch. McCain "endorsed" Blackwell a few months ago and conservatives haven't pulled their support from him. Ditto Bush in '04. The difference, perhaps, is that Shadegg was not a known quality so a FEW raised questions about Shadegg. I just consigned it to Mccain wanting to make connections for his '08 run, and others to in state courtesies. That's by far what the majority did in response to that endorsement.

BTW, conservatives favor less spending. McCain claims to be for less spending. Conservatives aren't endorsing more spending out of spite.

When was the last time a Representative was elected to the presidency?

If an anti-American peanut farmer from Georgia, and a slimy, felonious charlatan from Arkansas can be elected to the presidency (in one case--twice!), then a sound, honorable Representative can be elected president.

When McCain endorsed Shadegg, within 10 posts here on free republic, people all ready were ready to turn on Shadegg, and within 15 posts, 2nd guessing Shadegg.

McCain endorses anything that will get him near a camera.

FWIW, McCain claims to support less spending, there are freepers who refuse to accept that, I think McCain is just anti-pork (which is good), but a few folks here, and follow any McCain thread, start venturing out into what kind of spending McCain wants to cut.

You got caught red handed, so don't be calling me names. You post something like that without giving credit, you're a plagiarist. Plain and simple. You wanted people to think you wrote those words. Once again, you've proven beyond a shadow of a doubt that you're not interested in the truth or the facts. You're only interest on FreeRepublie is to attack anyone who opposes PresBush. You're a Bush sycophant and apologizer. And you're a firstclass TROUBLEMAKER. Always have been and always will be.

Howlin's a plagiarist!

The difference, perhaps, is that Shadegg was not a known quality so a FEW raised questions about Shadegg

Note the use of "few" and the fact I stated Shadegg was an unknown. Your contention is that few represented the majority. My contention is that it did not.

As well, most questions arose less because of McCain's endorsement, as they continue to support Blackwell, and more because they don't know who Shadegg is outside of a few blogs promoting him around here the last few weeks. That, to me, suggests a lot of folks just joined on a "bandwagon" and didn't do diligent research outside of whom was backing him. That is why when McCain endorses Blackwell or endorsed Bush, most don't bat an eye and question their support. We know each and are confident in the reasons we support them.

Summary-had folks been confident in Shadegg because they'd done their homework, rather than just rely on an endorsement from Pence or a few blogs, there would be less questions raised.

I think you are confusing knee jerk anti-McCainism with folks that just haven't done their homework, and as a result, ask questions in the middle of the process they should have done at the start. Kneejerk anti-McCainism is rather knowing the facts, and choosing to cut off your nose anyway. Most don't fit that description.

Anybody who watches me posts knows I've never posted two paragraphs that look like that in seven years.

And I cut and paste all the time.

But enjoy yourself.

I'll agree you may be right.

But I also didn't think Shadegg was an unknown entity.

He was endorsed by just about everything from the center to the right wing of the party.

He had a massive coalition of endorsements, and I knew him as Mike Pences top lieutenant.

Enought articles had been written about him, that I honestly figured, most folks by now should have known who he was.

Boehner is a very good choice. Leader with experience and able to communicate to the American public. He is not a rubber stamp for the status quo.

What was this all about? I must have missed this when it hit the news.

Instead of humbling backing off and licking your wounds, you come back with a lame excuse. I can't believe you aren't a big enough person to say, 'I made a mistake and I'm sorry'. If the tables were turned you'd be all over me and you know it.

You're no better then liberals like Jason Blair, Joe Biden and Doris Kearns Goodwin. All caught red handed and all plagiarists. You're in good company.

I posted remarks from a link UP THE THREAD, a post I had RESPONDED TO -- and you responded to MY post to cgk's post.

I have no "wounds" to lick, much as you'd like to pretend I do.

From everything I've read, a good pick.

I like that he was part of the House Bank cleaning...........and I'm glad that we're getting a fresh start.

I also do NOT mind that he's from my very fine and IMPORTANT state. :)

Remember, when the blogs started urging a change in leadership they were promoting Pence? Pence declined. Shadegg's name popped out and the first question out of most mouths was, "Shadegg who?".

IMO, a lot of folks took the talking points advanced by the blogs that chose Shadegg because Pence was out. Then Pence endorsed Shadegg and that was enough.

Look at the reactions to the new majority Leader. Look at the number of responses asking what he stands for. Theoretically people should have known if they'd done their homework about all three men. That's a dead giveaway people just followed what others said. Sure, the information was out there, but many took the shortcut.
