Hey!, that is not like you. John Boehner has been there longer then the others running for that position. John Boehner was one of the Gang of Seven back in the 90's when the democrats were in power which means that he helped bring the democratic scandals to light. He served under Newt and I was sorry when he lost his position. He also clashed with DeLaw and DeLay made sure to keep him down in the rank and file. Boehner honestly cares about helping his constituents. He will be more diplomatic but I know he is as tenacious as they come!

-"...he is weak on immigration. Am I wrong?-"

It appears so.

Boehner - "As for the second question: no. I do not support giving amnesty to illegal immigrants. I never have and I never will. Illegal immigrants are just that -- illegal. Their first act upon entering our country was to break our laws and they need to be held accountable."

Boehner has a 91% rating from the Christian Coalition and a 0% rating from NARAL. That's good enough for me.

I can think of better ploys- like don't bring up any bill and make the case why the minimum wage hurts the poor.

He did. He made the case why it didn't work, THEN he brought up his bill, and the Democrats voted it down. Santorum's argument was that "if we raise x amount of dollars, people will still not be happy, prompting the Senate to raise it still more".

IIRC, the Federation for American Immigration Reform(fairus.org) favored Blunt and gave Boehner a very poor rating.

The hot head even mispronounced Boehner's name. lol

His forte is haranguing local dems....serves a purpose, but not ready for prime time imo.

What do we know about Boehner?

Years ago, Boehner was a rising star of the GOP. Young, good-looking, very conservative. For some reason, he seems to have been absent nationally in recent years, and I am hoping he still has the aggressive conservative ideology he had when he first was elected. Kasich mellowed. I hope Boehner did not do the same.

Boehner would have been the ideal VP for Bush in 04. Choosing Cheney (who I have the utmost respect for) was a free pass to the RATs to win the White House in 08. Cheney shoould have been offered a high-level advisory role. Granted, I would want Cheney in charge if Bush had died, but the Boehner still would have been the type of VP to continue a GOP White House in 08 and a capable president if he was forced into it.

When there is no clear choice to follow a GOP president, like G.H.W. Bush in 1988 following Reagan, the 2-4% fence sitting "swing voters" usually migrate to a new face, new party attitude. Because Cheney will not run in 08, Bush's choice to keep CHeney as VP killed all chances of retaining the White House in 08.

Boehner should have been the VP pick in 04 by Bush. He could have been President Boehner in Jan, 09.

Young, good-looking, conservative, natural presidential candidate following Bush, ...........yes, all you need to know about him is he SHOULD have been the VP in 04.

You are right. But that is why I don't consider him a conservative.HE is our ally, but not one of us.Like Pence said "he is conservative but he is not "a" conservative"

He's a hot head.

Sounds like an uneducated, misinformed, knee-jerk, unappeasable.

You really shouldn't jump to conclusions, makes you look reactionary. I was just wondering if you could explain it in your own words... not the words of some icon you may be enchanted with.

From what I'm reading, I'm satisfied with the answers I'm getting. He's record seems to speak for itself, and it's a good one.

No further questions.

>>>>>Now, one more time, how does that make him FOR OPEN BORDERS?

If you took the time to read what FReepers post to you, Howlin, you wouldn't look so foolish. In #316 I said to YOU:

I didn't say Boehner was for open borders.

This issue has to do with Boehner supporting no punishment for employers who violate US law by hiring illegals. Understood? I guess you support that position. Fine. I don't.

You'll have to remind me. When was the last time a Representative was elected to the presidency?

but he sides with the employer and doesn't support punishment when it comes to them violating US law in hiring illegals.

I would side with the employer too. The last thing I would want to do is side with the outsourcing crowd.

About the best I can say is, "He's a better choice than Blunt." Not exactly a battle cry, is it? I wanted Shadegg, just to shake things up. Hope this guy has it in him to put an end to some of the more egregious crap that's gone on the past few years.
