With recent polls showing her more than 25 points ahead of her nearest GOP rival, donors gave more than $21 million to help reelect New York's Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton.
WASHINGTON - Democratic Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton raised $21.4 million last year for her reelection campaign in New York and has $17 million in cash on hand, totals driven in part by her front-runner reputation if she decides to pursue the presidency in 2008.
Clinton collected $6 million from 56,899 donors in the final three months of 2005, bringing her total to more than $21 million for the year, according to reports filed Tuesday with the Federal Election Commission. She spent about $9.3 million, leaving her with $17,101,626 and no major opposition in her bid for a second Senate term.
New York Republicans have struggled to mount a serious challenge to Clinton, and recent polls show her more than 25 points ahead of her nearest GOP rival. Then-Westchester County District Attorney Jeanine Pirro abandoned her bid after several stumbles; Edward Cox, son-in-law of President Nixon, said he would pass on the race despite GOP appeals.
Other Senate incumbents and their challengers nearly matched each other dollar for dollar in fundraising for this year's competitive races, with Republicans fighting to hold their majority against determined Democrats.
The Senate breakdown is 55 Republicans, 44 Democrats and one Democratic-leaning independent.

hey lee...methinks that NY gets the Senators it deserves...
Imagine this witch in charge of the DNC. Dean must be shaking in his boots.
She'd better keep those phat stacks of cash away from Dean. He goes through money faster than Paris Hilton on a coke binge, with about as much to show for it afterwards.

OK for Hillary to rake in cash, but if Tom DeLay does it he's tarred and feathered.
Hillary has more money than Howard Dean - by far!
Hahahahaha.......
I'm sending a small donation to Spencer. His campaign may be quixotic. but might be able to make her answer some questions she don't want to answer.
I would like to see a list of her (97's) donors. That way I can avoid spending money with her contributers. For example, I never eat at Ben and Jerry's.

Believe me, there are plenty of NYers that hate Clinton. I'm one of them.
Didn't she want to get the "big money" out of politics? Or was that just the "big money" she disagrees with?
Well, figure it this way: every dollar Spencer spends is another dollar or so that Hillary has to spend to counter it, which means she has less money for *later* stuff. Which is good.
Not enough unfortunately...25% ahead....that's tough..
The party of the little guy is a remarkable fundraising machine. $20 mil? Sheesh, the Witch could raise $200 mil if she had to.
