Sen. John Kerry claimed this morning on NBC TODAY that only 53% of America's children graduate from high school -- a claim that raised eyebrows in the NBC control room, sources tell the DRUDGE REPORT.
Kerry made the comments after host Katie Couric asked the former presidential candidate about the Bush's State of the Union call to train 70,000 additional teachers in math and science.
COURIC: He wanted to train 70,000 additional teachers in math and science.
KERRY: That's terrific. But 53 percent of our children don't graduate from high school. Kids don't have after-school programs... He didn't ask America to sacrifice anything to achieve great goals and the biggest example is making the tax cut permanent for the wealthiest people in America. The average American struggles to find time to take carry of families, working two or three jobs... It's a disgrace. He did not tell the real state of the union.
Kerry's 53% claim conflicts with a recent press release from the U.S. Census Bureau: "High School Graduation Rates Reach All-Time High"
And the Census Bureau's own website states: 85.9 Percent Of Americans Aged 20-24 Are High School Graduates. (U.S. Census Bureau Website, www.census.gov , Accessed 2/1/06)
114% of all statistics are made up on the spot !!
Read the census links again - it's 85% who do graduate.
And failed to mention his figure was accurate to within plus or minus three percent. ;-)
Well, sure, if you include the aborted ones
No, a liberal would never admit an aborted baby has any relationship to being a person. A fetus is just a gob of cells until the am-biblical cord is cut, then it magically becomes a person.
true- but leave it to a Democrat to contort the line of our familiar definitions to fulfill a political purpose.
I'm sure it's TRUE if you factor in the ABORTION RATE.....
'Sure sucks to be him..."
LOL...............ROTFLMAO
Even then, that number is absurd.
Kerry is out to lunch. His arrogance gives off a terrible odor.
Sounds like Jimmy Carter all over again.
That sounds about right. I was just busting on Kerry's misinterpretation of the facts, to do some President bashing. I'm sure he wants more taxes 'for the chul-dren', even if it means ignoring the educational improvements and successes of recent years that are all around him.
Among Kerry's other minor dysfunctions is, he is basically of mediocre, obtuse intelligence. He probably believes this even though he pulled the number out of his a&& just nanoseconds before he said it. It never occurred to him that the actual facts are recorded somewhere and accessible for the looking.
No doubt, it would have been nice if brainy Katie picked up on this obvious error at the time it was said.
My guess is that he got it from a Los Angeles TV news report a couple of days ago which said that only 48% of L.A. students graduate High School in four years.

I'm beginning to think he might be one of them.
Either that or he needs to take a remedial math course.
What about the other 62%, John?
OH buh-ruther...... Even here in this somewhat affluent area the kids that do not do well in mainstream classes during the regular day are offered a night school program. Many come out doing VERY well. We're graduating something like 99% in this district. Makes me wonder WHICH districts are bringing the averages down.... Oh let me guess.... the socialist-controlled big cities, maybe? Detroit? Chicago? LA?
